Compared to other online store, I think TruSnow is lacking variety

Well, they did expand into lots of other non-winter outdoor products and I think the selection of snow gear actually expanded after the company was bought from Sierra.

yeah, they have expanded over the past few years. I also wish they carried more products, but at the prices they give, and the rewards we get, we cant complain. If they don't have what you need go to dogfunk, or evo. TruSnow wont be mad... Thats the beauty of capitalism!

The house actually owns TruSnow They bought them out last yr. Sometimes the return address on your packages will actually say "The House " on them.

As for variety ... minus Neversummer..what are you looking for. TruSnow has way more stuff and better deals than dogfunk, REI, and most other sites I have seen. I have only seen one way better deal than TruSnow could offer and that was last summer on REI for a Custom Flying V for $287. other than that Im not sure what other variety you are looking for...

It seems to me that they don't have a lot of current year gear.  I wanted to buy a 2013 Burton Bulge pants but they don't carry it.  Is TruSnow a coalition shop?

lots of drama during the switchup... i actually went inactive for a period to let it blow over... search the forums tons of complaints... they seem to have most of it ironed out now though... Part of the reasons why doug left.

i just feel they are trying to get rid most of the old stocks without getting the new ones. the snow gloves & bindings selection seems diminishing without new models replacement.

well what they try to do is remove the model year on it. so at times some might think a binding for 120 is fantastic but in reality, it was 3-4yrs old

the site does carry a lot of older stuff... thats why we get the deals that we do... i think they are trying to use this site as a way for them to liquidate their old stock from the house.

as a complete tool for TNF, i believe TruSnow is starting to expand into other territories including camping and biking, among other things.

hard to say what you think of this place but it seems like TruSnow is still kickin', just not with snowboarding/skiing as its absolute main priority..
or at least not important enough to have the smith I/O Recon...that shit is like a saiyan scouter! interestingly enough, only ~50 exist in california!!!

ummmmm...

Id skip the whole belief that theyre solely trying to liquidate stock. They have current stock and quite a decent amount for a small business. You must remember its not sierra anymore. They are also second fiddle to the main e-tailer for active sports, the-house. They do what they can with what theyve got. They do alright, but a small downgrading of expectations to more realistic levels might be in order. Theyve got a nice cross section of gear, and a nice diversity of product, but its not 2009 anymore.

However one thing i will agree with is i HATE that they dont list the year on products. I know this is a policy of the house that was forced on TruSnow but i still hate it. Im therefore extremely happy to find out the year on any product youre thinking of buying and im pretty sure every one of the expert members out there share this sentiment. I have no idea why they do it (who am i kidding - of course i do), but it still alienates their customers, and i dislike the practice. More info, not less thanks. :) Im very disappointed to see that the 2011 and 2012 gear have had their years removed recently.

You can still tell which is older though... just look at the price... its clearly marked down below what 2013 prices would be... I do agree that isnt a very moral practice and frown on it because it is a good way to scam people who dont know what theyre looking at.

Scam sounds too harsh a word though. Its not really about scamming people, but it is about controlling information. A scam would be more like saying that the board is 2013 when its 2010, or showing a picture of a 2013 board whilst actually selling a 2012 board. Basically a scam is where you deliberately falsify information to dupe someone out of something.

This isnt a scam. The boards are listed, its just theyre depending upon people not doing their research and looking at the price. which is actually how a lot of it happens.

In defence of it though, and i cant believe im giving a line of defence to the practice, but there really isnt much difference on boards year on year, and once they hit a certain point (usually to the end of their current season), discounting them further just because theyre a year older becomes absurd. And since if given a choice, 9 times out of ten your average not altogether informed buyer will go for the newer one assuming its "better" or has newer tech.

So really if youre a company with a lot of 2011 and 2012 boards still in stock and have them both listed at the same price and you know that people will pick the newer one over the older one regardless of whether or not its honestly any different, you might think about adopting such a policy just to help get rid of your last few bits of stock from that year rather than throwing them out on a massive sale. In effect the practice is to simply keep the value of the board stable and not force the retailer to take a huge cut just because its a year older.

I understand it i guess, at least i think thats the reason why (from a non industry standpoint), but it leads to a lack of trust with both the legitimacy of the product infomation in general and also alienates your customers when they may do a bit of research and realise that their board is a few years older than they thought (since this isnt jus 2 years of boarshere, its 2013/everything else), and that should they wish to sell it on, theyre going to get markedly less in the second hand market (for reasons already stated - people want newer gear - older gear carries a stigma on it since this industry is HORRENDOUSLY fashion driven). Its cynical and kinda ruthless.

The only comfort i take in it is that someone might pick up the travis parker texas board by "accident" and end up loving it so much they come back to the forums to shout from the rooftops that just because a deck is 6 years old, dont mean shit. Theres this idea that all innovations have happened only in the last 4 or 5 years and before that all snowboards were lumbering pieces of shit. This is clearly not the case. Itd be nice to have voices from normal punters and not just the hardcore explicating this too :)

Still, i think it sucks and if anyone wants to know what year X board is, ill happy find out for you. :)

i haven't followed this thread, but i just wanted to reply based on ippy's last post

omitting the truth is a form of lying. they know exactly what they're doing by leaving out the year.  it may help sell things in some cases, but it's a direct act of deceit on a certain level, period.  that's why they do it.  what other online shops do it?  i can't think of any.

also, i picked up a 2003 K2 parka last year (travis' model) and i love it.  there is definitely too much emphasis on model year, and i'm not free and clear of being affected by it, but i'm just sayin'...

I'm actually dont really care much abt which year model the product is, i just would love to see more variety. i wear woman gloves size XS, and TruSnow only have 2 gloves size XS. it's just rather sad ...

spenser, its just how it is. It wont be changed because i dont believe its a policy of Trusnows, but in fact a policy of their parent company. I disagree with it, you disagree with it, we both disagree with it on the same grounds... even if youll use the word "lying" and i wont. I find it cynical and counter productive in terms of customer relations. But i guess for the company controlling this site they would make the claim (as i mentioned above) that its a pragmatic consideration to keep board prices from dropping lower than cost so they can turn a profit and stay in business.

Ultimately though its good that its brought up again. People do need to know that they arent getting full info on the product and should not assume that a board without a year listed on it is from the previous season. As i say, more often than not the change is cosmetic or trivial to the point that most people wouldnt really notice. But sometimes the change from one year to the next can be radical (such as this years highlife or last years bataleon line), so its best to ask if in doubt. :) Thats all any of us (including staff who are also bound by the policy and likely (quietly) disagree with it) can really do.

I was wondering why I started noticing that years were being omitted.  As for omission being classified as lying, that's subjective.  Sometimes I think it is, sometimes it isn't.  For TruSnow's sake, it's not that hard to distinguish since they still put 2013 on new stuff.  Wouldn't it be safe to say that anything without a 2013 label on it is old stock?

You're right though, major innovations and advancements were done a long time ago.  Improvements year by year now are more often incremental than massive.  You can really see it in the bindings especially.  Style has stepped up in everyone's criteria when selecting new gear.  Just like any piece of clothing, fashion is all about having the newest before anyone else, being "unique" automatically means "original" and lots of people out there pay premium for it.  Little do they know, fashion recycles ALL the time.  They mask this by saying it's "classic" or "timeless". hahaha  But money dictates the flow and we're always forced to conform with fashion if we wish to not be regarded as old fogies.

I myself am a proud bargain hunter.  I couldn't care less if 10 to 1000 other people have my same gear, I'd probably feel more confident about my purchase knowing many people support my decision.  Plus I save money.  I look at it like this, "Wow, I just spent X amount on the BEST gear out there a couple of years ago which cost 2X at that time!"

A great picture isn't taken by the camera, it's the photographer behind that camera!  Similarly, gear does not dictate the greatness of a rider.

EDIT:  With regards to the op, I actually think TruSnow has a massive inventory overall, but yes, they do lack a bit in 2013 stock.  I don't really thing it's The House wanting to just put old stock in TruSnow but more so they want to keep the new stock at The House... more traffic, higher sales, so on and so forth.  It makes sense being the parent company.  I think we'll continue to see more selection added as the NA winter season progresses.

agreed and yes ippy in hindsight "scam" was a strong word... this isnt some barry madoff stuff here... But i do think that omitting the year the gear is produced is wrong... I also know that TruSnow is a great place to go for bargain hunters... I come here and buy stuff because i know im getting quality for cheap... i just bought a set of targa 2 goggles on here for 26 bucks... i know for a fact their at least 2 years old but thats why i bought them... because i got a killer price on a product i knew i liked. I still am adamant on the idea that the house posts their older stock on this site so they have another way to get it exposed for cheap and get rid of it... I think they do that because they know they have a market of informed people here who know what their looking at and year doesnt matter to them. Personally i still think the years should be posted on this sort of stock... its just the right thing to do... but i doubt any of our input is going to change company policy...

Are you serious? That sucks. I thought that you were supposed to get a point for every $10 you spend or something like that. You should definately contact them and find out what's going on.

It's 1 point per $10. the picture with the 3 points per $10 spent is incorrect according to the person I spoke to.  I hope the points shows up.

I know I have 190 purchased points, I added up the money I have spent on TruSnow though the years and I have spent over $2500. It was 190 before my last purchase of almost $700. So if it was 3 points per $10. I should have been awarded 210 points just from black friday/cyber monday.

Would be nice if they get new Sierra/trusnow branded snowboard. The reverse crew/crew/bluebird has been out for a while now.

This is a constructive criticism, no new collaboration boards for the last couple seasons. Last year there was the collab with (I believe) Sessions on a jacket and pants, but as far as boards, none. I remember hearing there was a new sierrascope version possibility, but unless they vanished instantly, I have not seen them.

I'd like another Colab with a big company like the SierraScope. The Rome S90's are decent as well.

Only complaint is they don't have Electric EG2 lenses. Sigh.

For replacement lenses, contact Electric directly, that's what I did here in Canada.  They were VERY accommodating to my requests and decent prices too, pretty fast shipping.

I would like TruSnow to add the country of origin to its products.  A lot of other sites do this now.  Many of us are willing to pay a little more for domestically made products, though those are pretty difficult to find these days.

I'd like to see more helmets. I only see 4 helmets in Medium sizes. Maybe bad timing since it's nearing xmas?

Yeah the colabs were awesome! never got a chance to buy one of those but they sounded like a great idea. Really liked the opportunity of winning a board EVERYDAY as well hahahaha

it was awhile back but i THINK there are more on the way...but under the "sierra" name, as the agreement suggested...unfortunately, i do not believe there will be a way for us to "homebrand" it like it was before under phil wiles (englishbutler)

I have a sierrascope, it's probably the best board I have owned. I also have a stunt that I won last year.  My friend just got a reverse crew, I hope I get to ride it this year so I can compare, it should be a good board since it's basically a burton custom.

Im pretty sure the collabs are over in truth. The driving force behind them are all at thrive building and designing their own gear, and i havent really seen anyone else stepping out from the shadows to promote the idea in teh forums. Sorry dudes, but i think its done. :) The sierrascope is a great board by the way =p sucks you cant get it (unless you go and buy the 2010 indoor FK - though the scope is a bit fatter - but i honestly had more fun dicking around on teh indoor that being said... you just really want to muck about on it).

I have the Stunt and had the R.Crew ... I actually ended up selling the R.Crew and kept the Stunt.  I sold the R.Crew to help fund for a Vapor.  Now, I guess part of my decision was to avoid any kind of redundancy and I think I have an affinity to twin shape as well.  But I just found I had more fun with the Stunt than with the R.Crew.  The Stunt felt like it had more pop too.  YMMV.  Maybe I got rid of the R.Crew a bit prematurely, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I kept it longer.
