    Posted: Dec/04/2012 at 6:25am
the consolidation of the snow world continues, looks like KSL is lining up to do battle with Vail Corp.

this looks likes the fun portion of the press release:

KSL expects to hold the purchased shares for investment purposes. However, KSL and its affiliates expect to evaluate on an ongoing basis the Corporation’s financial condition and prospects and its interest in, and intentions with respect to, the Corporation and KSL’s investment. KSL and its affiliates may from time to time acquire additional common shares of the Corporation or may dispose of all or a part of their shares.

In connection with KSL’s acquisition of Intrawest’s common shares, KSL will assume Intrawest’s rights and obligations under a registration rights agreement which will provide KSL the right to require the Corporation to qualify by prospectus all or a portion of its shares for distribution to the public in Canada, subject to certain conditions. The registration rights agreement is more fully described in the Corporation’s final prospectus dated November 2, 2010 and a copy is available on SEDAR at www.sedar.com under the Corporation’s profile.

Wow..what this mean for Squaw/AM season ticket holders? Access to Whistler Blackcomb?
I would imagine the season tickets for next year will go up...

Interesting. I didn't know anything about KSL and them owning Squaw/AM. I haven't been to either mountain in a while as I'm usually at Kirkwood, Sierra or Heavenly.

I go to Whistler more for mountain biking in the summer, so I hope this doesn't affect the summer bike park.

It seems like all the big boys are going about and buying out all of  the little guys.  I do hope prices don't increase because they're expensive to begin with.

Hmm, I love Alpine/Squaw and Whistler, so this might be good news for me...  Unless the pass price goes even higher...

wow I hope this is good news, I still haven't been to whistler, but from what I been hearing and reading, it is quite a place to go on vacation.  Hopefully KSL doesn't ruin the place.

The only problem with Whistler is that the lodging is steep. Vancouver has inexpensive hotels, but it's a long drive.

What do you consider steep?  I thought lodging in Whistler was cheap without the crazy traffic in Vancouver.  Well, I'm used to paying like around 200-250 a night for a cabin in Mammoth and Big Bear.

i stayed in a studio apt in the village over Xmas for under 150 a night.  in Tahoe, that's 250+ being 20 minutes from the mountain, let alone in the village.

Also interesting that Vail bought 2 "premiere" mid-west mountains, one near St. Paul, MN and the other outside Deeeee-troit.

the Californiacation of the world continues at ludicrous speed.

Whistler's defintely far from cheap, especially since the exchange rate no longer helps us yanks out. But you can find deals and reasonable rates. It helps (as with everywhere) if you have a large group and can split a larger condo. I haven't stayed there, but Creekside is supposed to be a little less expensive. Get up there if you can, it'll blow you away.

There's so much infastructure there, it would be hard for an ownership change to mess it up. But weirder things have happened. I imagine as long as people keep going there, they'll be fine.

Is that a good or a bad thing? For me lodging is not the issue, it's getting there, and getting all of my friends to go. Seems like most of my snowboarding buddies now have families, and getting some free time to go riding isn't as easy as it was back in the olden days..

Wow thats crazy... stuff like that doesnt really happen out on the east coast only buyout i can think of is Mount Snow buying out JFBB. Still a lot of little private and state owned mountains out here, but its coming... its inevitable...
It comes and it goes, get it while it lasts.

Andy W sent out emails last night that gold pass holders get 2 free days to Whistler added on to their Tahoe Super Pass then $25 a day discount on any days after that.   Who gets the gold pass ?

ha, that's good point. it feels like there's a huge push to get everyone to buy season passes. i guess it's a more sustainable business model than relying on ticket window purchases. can't wait to see what pieces at discount shops are but i'm expecting them to be even more crazy than they were last year.
