Get nice, very water resistant pants (high "k" rating), you will be on your butt a lot in the beginning. Other than that, just something that fits and that you like, and keeps you warm and dry. I like 686 outerwear a lot, but its not the cheapest stuff.

you probably want 15k to 20k stuff because your gonna be sitting quite a bit... trust me... my first day i was wearing jeans and it was terrible... try to get stuff that is quality but cheap order last years gear this site has a lot of that sort of stuff on it. or go to marshalls tjmax burlington coat factory and look there... i got my first pair of pants at burlington coat factory for like 35 bucks. these places are hit or miss but sometimes have good stuff.
