In a few weeks I'll be going to Colorado for the first time.  I have a pass to the Tahoe resorts, so I get a discount at the Vail resorts and will be going to some of those, but I may go to some others as well.

Anything I should know heading out there?  What are some of the 'secret' areas of the resort that I should be aware of.  If there is some pow where should I go?  If it ends up not snowing where should I go?

Also what is the rule on leashes?  I seem to remember that they are required out there.

Happened to me too. Drink lots and lots of water.

to OP, don't drink alcohol if you're a light weight or else you'll get drunk before you know it. Driving up and down the mountain is pretty crazy when it snow so go in a front wheel drive or AWD car.

IMO I think Vail has the best powder and Keystone and Copper got great bowls. Keystone got night sessions too so if you really want to spend all day exploring and save night sessions to messing around.

For what I remember, Keystone, Vail, Copper, and Winter Park do not require leashes.

So far from what I've ridden it seems that Keystone and Vail have the best conditions.  That doesn't mean that it won't change.  I was a Copper for a couple days last week and they didn't quite have the coverage as many of the other resorts.  I'd just keep an eye on the snow reports leading up to your trip and make your decision based on that.  If you end up doing the Keystone night sessions make sure to wear extra layers of clothing as they can be extremely cold.

Good advice! Before coming here (Colorado) one thing i always suggest to my friends is to start drinking beverages with electrolytes (gatorade, vitamin water, etc.) before you arrive & have at least one or 2 a day while here. That will help alleviate & potentially avoid altitude sickness.

Although our season got of to a slow start, Summit County where you are headed has finally been getting steady & consistent snow fall. So there is plenty of the good stuff to play on. Have a great time while you are here in our amazing state!!!

I'm staying at Breckenridge, but I will have to give the night sessions a try.

Also at Keystone I see that they have a lot of places only accessible by cat.  There is a tour, which I wont be doing but it says there are also ones that you can ride for $5.  That's going to be a must do if there is powder.

Go ride the bowls! I think they close around 2PM so go early! then explore the woods, it's amazing!

I tried the $5 cat ride. Word of advice. Don't do this unless you are comfortable with riding in trees. Also make sure you have a friend with you. (Especially if its snowing a lot or had snow a lot recently). The bowl they drop you into disappeared into a forest area.

God I would love to go again..... but that altitude sickness was sooooo bad.
I would literally be wheezing for air after putting on my bindings. small things made me so out of breath.

I should go back to Tahoe. Gambling and boarding!!!!
