Don't count the wings out yet. Everyone underestimates us because the team was so bad in the beginning of the season due to half the team never having played in the NHL before. There are still some rough patches, especially with the defensive turnovers, but the team is playing with high energy and tenacity while it looks like Chicago just wants to ride their natural talent.  Frustration is really setting in on Madison, 2 goals in 2 games and Toews is looking as cold as Chris Perry in round 1.  Detroit's forecheck has been killing the normally stoic Chiciago defense, and the Wings absolutely DOMINATED the faceoff circle in game 3.  It's OK if nobody believes in this team yet, because I love when they prove everyone wrong.  This is the first time in a long long time that the Red Wings haven't had the pressure of extremely high expectations, in fact there are no expectations because they weren't even supposed to be in the playoffs, and that can only help a roster of young players.  I know the defense makes a lot of bonehead plays, and people tend to see that and write them off, but trust me these guys make a lot of great plays too, and they are helped defensively so much by the heavy backchecking of a forward core taught in practice by the greatest 2 way player in the game, Pavel Datsyuk.

Surprised that the Red Wings are leading the series. I expect the Blackhawks to rebound and take the series in 6.

Okay, I was off by just a bit... lolz...  Obviously I expected the Blackhawks to come out of the gates flying and run up the score last night, didn't happen.

Regarding the post about Chicago losing their mojo, IMO I do not think so.  They will rebound and come back strong on Thursday.  Chicago hasn't faced much adversity this season, this series is really testing their mettle.

Now onto tonight's games.  My wild and inaccurate predictions:

Boston 3   NYR 2 (OT)
SJ 3  LA 2

Yep, same score for both games.

Shame on the NHL for this...

Isn't that the same for the NBA. I think it's so stupid. Just the owner's way of keeping that sport in good light to the public. So long for freedom of speech

Can't say I was very interested with the NY Rangers this season. Management took the #1 seeded team and traded everyone away. So I'm not too vested but I hope they can take the Bruins out!

Scoreless game so far. Hawks can do some damage but the Wings are exactly a pushover either. They'll give them a good fight. I can see this series going the distance.

^ Ouch.... 5-1 is a pretty harsh prediction... I can definitely see it happening though. If Chicago is on their game they can definitely do some hurtin' on the scoreboard.

agreed, Blackhawks looked to be trying to coast through the series and got bit in the ass for it.
Detroit's got momentum now and Chicago is now the away team....
Should be a good game to watch.

Sharks had a strong game last night, both goalies played well (Niemi 26-27, Quick 38-40).

Boston pounded NYR 5-2.  Lundqvist gives up 5 goals in a playoff game - last time it happened was 2009 (5 goals in a playoff game).

Another super tight battle in Kings/Sharks series.  Sharks had to win and they did so good on them for that. They have another must win game...Kings still in the driver's seat.

Wow, what got into the Red Wings today?  They looked like a completely different team, beating the Blackhawks 4-1 in Chicago.  Always good for the visiting team to win one on the road.  Wondering if Chicago thought they could win just by showing up?

Wow, Crosby has a hat trick - only took him 1:15 into the 2nd period to get his 3rd goal.

Ottawa is putting up a fight, down 4-3 with just over 4 minutes left in the game.

I feel like it is tougher to predict scores in Hockey than in football.  I mean, you are never exactly right in football, but I feel hockey scores are less consistent.

I think the Sharks are going to come back and win the series.

I would like that, if the sharks can pull off an advance to Rd 3 that would be amazing.... they do have a hell of a lot of work to go to complete that.

I've got faith in the Sharks for the next 2 games at home... They are able to draw from the home ice crowd very well...
So far the sharks have dominated a majority of the game... They're out shooting LA, more blocked shots, more won faceoffs....
I think the next game will swing in the Sharks favor.

Really close game between Bruins and Rangers. Too bad the Rangers ran out of gas in OT. Seems like the B's found new life in their game after that huge comeback.

Wow...what a finish to the Kings game.  Two goals in 22 seconds with under 2 minutes to go to win the game.  That is a tough one for the Sharks to swallow.  Be interesting to see what kind of heart that team has down 2 going back home.  Kings were in same situation against Blues after losing two heart breakers (OT loss against a short handed goal due to Quick miss cue and the second game got scored on with 30 seconds left to lose) but then came back to win 4 straight.  Kings are in a great spot though and this team knows how to close.  Should be a great game 3.

Agreed except the part where you state the Sharks dominated the last 10 minutes.  Kings were up two goals and obviously are not going to try and score... you would expect that last ten minutes to go that way. Although do credit the Sharks for putting the pressure on.  This feels like a must win for the Sharks. If they go 2 down they will have to be the Kings 4 out of 5 games which seems highly unlikely.
Yeah I doubt that would happen. Sharks are a perennial 2nd round losers. Kings have caught fire once again. I have a feeling this series will be over quick.

Too much Blackhawks for Howard to handle, dude faced 41 shots.  The Red Wings defense looked pretty shoddy, especially Smith.

Two games on tap tonight, my predictions:

Bruins 3  Rangers 1
Kings 2  Sharks 1 (OT)

U.S. beats Russia 8-3 in the World Championship tournament.

That's a tough one to call as it's still kinda early. Several teams riding huge momentum waves right now. Detroit, Boston, LA and even the Rangers are all playing well. Pens needed 6 games to knock off the Isles. So it wouldn't surprise me if it came down to two other teams in the cup finals.

Only the Leafs are capable of something that! To be up 4-1 with 15 mins to go and end up losing in OT. So disappointing to come this far, be within arms reach of the 2nd round and then just give it away. Just absolutely heart breaking for any Leafs fan.

Some good things to take away from this series is that the Leafs are able to comeback just when you think they're down and out. This team has a lot of heart. They'll be back in the playoffs 9 years from now kicking some ass! LOL But seriously, they'll be tough to beat against any team. Kudos to Brian Burke for putting together a solid squad. It's been a very long time since I've last felt the buzz in this city.

GO LEAFS GO!

Hot damn, that was a helluva game by the Bruins.  Down 4-1 in the 3rd period and tying the game by scoring 2 goals within 31 seconds with the goalie on the bench for the extra attacker.  F'ing amazing.  That was quite a collapse by the Leafs.

Games tonight:  Sens @ Pens, Sharks @ Kings

Wow, Boston wins 5-4 in OT to send the Leafs to the golf course.

Rangers are crushing the Capitals 5-0.

Interesting, the 2 and 3 seeds from both conferences were knocked out of the playoffs.

Last nights' games did not disappoint - all were decided by 1 goal.  Rangers and Leafs both win to force a Game 7.  Red Wings looked strong in their 3-2 Game 7 win over the Ducks.  Gotta wonder about Boudreau's coaching abilities, he can lead a team through a season with a strong record (Washington and Anaheim) but cannot get past the 2nd round (or 1st round this season) of the playoffs.

Two Game 7's tonight, should be some damn good hockey.

Western Conference Round 2 matchups:

Chicago vs. Detroit (tough matchup for Detroit... well, tough matchup for any team facing Chicago)

L.A. vs. San Jose for the Battle of California.

What fans....
such a lack of respect...
If you watched the wings beat the ducks you might have noticed the fans immediately emptying out of the stadium after they lost.
so few people waited to see the handshake and the salute!

It's just sad to see the ducks play their asses off, loose then get tossed aside by so many of their fans.

I'm hoping that Detroit takes it all the way.
I want the Sharkies to play the Chicago after 1 more series...

Yep I'm stoked watching the Wings Ducks game as well.  Second intermission and once again, Detroit is up 3-1.  Corey Perry is still colder than last night's dinner, and Zetterberg is hungry.  Can the Ducks rally in the third again? Look out for Bobby Ryan, who's tied it up to force overtime twice now.

Watching this Det vs Ana game. So far Det is up by 1. Hopefully they can hold on and win the game. Would rather see my Hawks face them then the Ducks.

I'm looking forward to three 1-goal games tonight.  The Rangers held up their end by winning 1-0.
