Ok so I'm fairly new to waxing my board...only done it twice..
And I was wondering can you leave a little bit more wax on when scraping and go even faster? Like can I not press as hard when scraping...just press enough to get the wax even? |

Welcome to TruSnow mharlan. extra wax can actually slow you down more. make sure you keep scraping until no more wax comes off. try checking out snowboard waxing guides and youtube videos of people waxing for additional tips too

the purpose is for the wax to fill the microscopic structure of the base ("pores," as it's always been called, even though there are no actual pores in base material). you are not really riding "on" the wax, but on the base as the wax comes off very slowly. in general, you want to scrape all the excess surface wax off, but don't go too hard to the point that the base looks dry again.
the only time I have heard of leaving excess wax on the base is for late-season corn snow in the mountains, also known as hot pow. long story short, no you will not go any faster with excess wax on your base. if you want to try to go the fastest, use the best wax for the specific conditions, and learn how to properly finish your base after waxing (brushing) realistically, the average rider (almost everyone) needs nothing more than an all-temp wax and standard scraping.

I agree with the two above.
I have also tried it, it does not work like that. I scraped of the excess wax immediately after the first run. I was curious and had to try it. I have also tried different temp wax and didn't really notice any difference. I ride about 40 days per season in all kind of conditions.

If you leave more wax than is needed on the board then the bumpy spy's of the mountain will easily make indents into the wax and that will slow you down drastically.
