    Posted: Feb/05/2013 at 7:16pm
So I am going on a spring break trip with my college (Penn State) and we are going to Breck for March 3-8. Can I get some suggestions on the best ways to spend my time and money? I heard the lift tix are good for other resorts as well, should I attempt to go elsewhere or stay in Breck? This is my first trip out west in the wintertime so I am virtually clueless of what to expect besides big mountains.

Thanks!

i've a done a couple of long weekend trips in breck. I recommend getting your lift tickets online, it's the cheapest rout. You guys are going a bit longer than I have but I know when you get a 3 day lift ticket it's good for keystone and 1 day at beaver creek or vail, I'm partial to beaver but that's just because whenever i've gone to vail it was shit conditions. I've never hit keystone, they have night riding but i hear it can be real icy.

Personally i love breck and if you are staying at a ski in ski out or close to the shuttle i would spend at least 2 or 3 days at breck to get the most out of the trip and 1 day at beaver or vail to mix it up. it's still a hike to the other resorts and can be a pain in the ass to rustle up a crew in the morning, get them and all their gear in the car and hit the road.

As for the nightlife, there are tons of good bars. I've gotten friendly with the bar maidens at mother loaded in the past. Erics downstairs is a good spot and they have pop-a-shot. 320 south has live music, i caught some decent jam and bluegrass music there in the past.

I'll be heading out there the week before you with a crew of 12, I can't wait! have fun broseph!

While Breckenridge is not one of my favorite places to ride in Summit County the town is fun to hang out in at night. Also, you are close enough to Keystone to get in some night riding, which i highly recommend doing at least once. It is amazing to be out on the mountain at night, looking up and seeing the sky full of stars is incredible!!! Have fun while you are here!!!

We got a a pretty good deal and rented condos for 6 nights and lift tickets for 4 days in breck condos for 508$ so we dont need to worry about those factors. Most of us are 21 so the bars may or may not be options for some of the younger ones LOL

Those tickets are great because of the options. I've skied all 4 of those spots and all 4 are great on a good snow day. My first choice, if you get a dump, is vail because of the back bowls. It's a must do. I'm also partial to Keystone because every time I go there it is snowing. The other two are also fun but in my opinion nothing compares to Vail in Summit County.

We figured we would hit up keystone for some night riding one night. Any thoughts on like A basin?

A-Basin is called the legend for a reason...its got some great steeps and usually more snow than anywhere else. however, this year it has been receiving less snow than all the other spots in that area. I was in CO over Christmas and last weekend and both times it was snowing a majority time in the mountains and both times the Legend got the least or no snow at all. they are having an off year for sure.

Interesting.  I went to Breck last year (and loved it) and am heading to Keystone this year.  What did you like about Keystone and what made it 3x better than Breck?

Any suggestions/recommendations (on anything - the mountain, restaurants, apres riding, etc) for Keystone?

^ Thanks MT, I have added Dos Locos to my Keystone list.

Still waiting to hear from psubballfan12 to see why he liked Keystone so much more than Breck...

My bad, was away from the site for a little. Breck was big and was awesome, but at the same time there was a ton of people in comparison to Keystone. I'd be on full runs where I would only see a couple of people at times. I also thought the rides were a lot more fun and the park was nicer although brecks parks are definitely more than respectable as well.

The outback at Keystone is awesome as well; definitely spend some time there, although it closes earlier than the rest of the mountain.

I probably am not the person to base your decisions off of though, I am an east coast rider used to riding tiny ass hills!LOL

^ Thanks, I appreciate the follow-up.

As far as riding tiny ass hills I'm in MI... 'nuff said.

I went to Breck last year for Spring Break and had a great time.  I know what you're saying about the crowds although the lift lines moved quickly and I didn't have any issues with too many people on the runs (they all seemed to spread out over the multitude of runs).  I didn't get to explore anything off-trail last season due to the lack of snow but still had a fantastic time.

Definitely looking forward to heading out to Keystone in a few days.

Is the keystone dos locos the same chain near abasin? Im not too sure of where things are resort wise but the dos locos i went to at abasin was packed 2 weeks after opening day with everyone enjoying happy hour. It seems like the place to be after a day of boarding.

yea we went at a good time and seemed like we were off trails more than on them. It was fun. Hopefully you get some snow when you head back this time around!
