Cardrona is probably my favourite- but it's a bit more of a hike when you're staying in QT.

Lucky you mate! I can only make it to Perisher in the first week of Sept this year. I've done Coronet and Remarks quite a bit and I want to go to Cardrona and treble cone now as I hear that the snow conditions are often better. Only trouble is that they are a bit of a drive from Q'town.

Much advice on which of the 4 would be best for learning? I'll be a bit sloppy but its my mates first time.
Also any of the 4 got decent park set ups? mainly jumps and rails? I really want to get some practice in! If i get good enough i might even hit up Snow park NZ for a day!!! Btw staying at the normads in QT. |

Nice central location koji3!
The Remarkables has the best park set-up in the area. The road can be a bit scary in bad weather. Coronet has a good dual learner slope set-up now with 3 magic carpet rides. It's a bit of a jump though from their learner slope to the beginner runs, but hey we need to be challenged. If you are feeling confident then you can head out to the greengates chair on the far side. It's lots of fun over there but might be a bit much for your mate on his first time. The Remarks learner area can get a bit crowded in peak season, but the green runs are probably a bit more gentle, plus you can go tubing there as well. Haven't been to Cardrona and Treble Cone yet but I hear that Cardrona is set-up well for families and kids so I guess that means it would be good for learning. The snowpark would be epic! Just want to make sure your travel insurance is paid up ;) |

cardrona has a beginner park section which is much more n00b friendly then the remarks
only problem is making laps with it the run you either have to hike or do long loops on the green chair (which is very slow) but this was 3 years ago almost so dont know if they changed it dont know about snowpark imagine they would have top notch beginner park layout |

I think the snowpark has a few levels depending on how many brave pills you have taken.

See Mt Hutt? They have a huge load of snow already ![]() Btw guys thanks for the info. Might hit up the coronet peak first up for learning for the first 2-3 days. I have more then enough confidence that my friend will pick it up pretty quick. He's an amateur surfer/skateboarder but he's picked them up pretty quick. Hopefully some of those skills will come across to snowboarding. And the best bit is that he's very confident that he'll learn quick. The advance from blue to green sounds good at coronet, plus i think it'll keep me going for those few days while he's learning.
I'll definitely hit up the park at remarkables asap. Will have plenty of Gopro stacks ready for you then. If we save up enough money we will go heli boarding for sure and snowpark NZ is only if we are confident by then. 14 days, fingers crossed. |
