    Posted: Mar/12/2013 at 7:26am
Doing a lot of research and tried on a bunch of boots and I have it down to Nike Zoom DK and the Nike Kaiju

right now, I am in Burton Ambush that I'm OK with.  I like the flex in those, and so that is really what I am after.  I'm in a size 10 in those.

I'm going to be a 10.5 in Nike's which are going to fit my bindings better (L/XL rome's that are almost too big with the ambush with shink tech)

So what I'd like to know is how the Nike's break in/how much they pack out.  anyone got some input?

thanks!

They're my old drifters from the late 90's.  And Zakk, you've officially been thread-jacked!  Good luck with your boots

I've been riding DKs for a couple seasons. Honestly, pack out has been pretty minimal, as has breakdown in stiffness. I'd say they've packed out maybe 1/2 what other boots have on me (1/4 size tops?). As for break-in, boot is marginally softer than on day one, but barely so. Again, what you get out of the box is closer to how they will ride on day 50 than I've experienced with Burtons.

the DK is a bit stiffer than the ambush.  kaiju is closer, being a medium flex, not on the firmer side like the DK kind of is.

as far as flex breakdown, both boots have a flex notch at the ankle (articulating cuff as burton calls it), but the kaiju also has flywire built in.  it allows the flex to spring back very well, and not break down as much over time, so that may be what you're looking for.  my guess for you is the kaiju if they fit good.

^^^ I would actually consider letting those go if you're interested, although I would need to find some new boots to wear when I shovel dog shit during the winter . . . .

Did you get your boots yet? I am also thinking about getting the Kauju.  I have a DC Judge right now and the Boa isn't working as well as it was when it was new, It's also 4 years old

Ended up buying the Kaiju,  read nothing but good about it, my DC is almost falling apart anyways. Plus I was able to get the Kaiju at 40% off.
