Coaches don't count for salary cap. I just feel bad for the Browns HC. Just got hired and they already want to get rid of him. Browns were just inquiring about Harbaugh.

Combine came and gone. Not good for Clowney. Probably lost a few million over the weekend. He'll still be filthy rich.

^ Not good for Clowney?  He posted 4.47 and 4.48 in the 40 yard dash (unofficial times) and a 10 yard split of 1.56 seconds which indicates explosive speed.  On the other hand he benched 225 lbs. 21 times which is low for a top tier defensive lineman.  Plus he was late for interviews, claiming he has travel issues.

Yeah, I thought everything went pretty well for Clowney.  Bad for Bridgewater though.  If you aren't going throw, your other performance numbers should be good if you expect to go #1.  Now Johnny Manziel is going to get more hype.

40 times matter in track. 21 reps at the bench press? I think he'll get pushed around. I'm not saying he'll be a bust, but I kinda expect more out of a lineman.

I would venture to say that 40 times is the highest predictor of success across sports.  If he can close on a QB or run down a running back, that is pretty important, even though it isn't track.

I am curious to see if Brandon Cooks is moving up now that he had a faster 40 time than the other WR.  Maybe that will get him to SF in the first round!

I think the 40-time isn't that important unless you're a WR, CB, or a KR. On the field, you're not running straight most of the time. Especially if you're playing near the line, agility/side-to-side quickness and strength would be better predictors of how good you can perform.

Wow... just saw this headline:  "Make Or Break Year for Jim Harbaugh."

/ A superbowl appearance and another f NFC title game in 3 years is pretty crappy. better get rid of the guy. Confused

Where did you see that? I heard Harbaugh wants more money, more control, etc. Also arguments over who gets the creditfor the success.

Based on the feud between him and the front office and the consideration of trade possibilities would make me think that headline is appropriate for him time/legacy in SF.  But if SF and him can't get along, there are many other teams that would line up for him.

NFL cares about racial slurs now?  New rule would outlaw use of N-word, but they won't get involved in the use of the team name Redskins

Robert Quinn only did 22 reps and he is one of the top five defensive players in the league.  Most experts say that is a meaningless stat.

What is deemed "important" for combine stats depends on which so-called expert you are reading or listening to.  The experts that favor the bench press for linemen say upper body strength is important and someone who lacks upper body strength will get pushed around.  The experts who value the 40 yard dash say speed is important - for all positions since the NFL game is much faster than college.  Linemen with good 40 times usually go higher in the draft.  More important is the 10 yard split time which shows explosiveness, which is highly valued for a D-lineman.  Everyone has a different opinion but if any of these categories were completely useless I think the NFL would not use them for the combine.

Boldin is a gem he's definitely worth keeping around at that price. Torrey Smith is begging for a replacement clone of him haha.

Yeah but now Kaepernik wants $18M per year. That's kinda pricey.

$18M for Kap is too high.  That's Rodgers, Manning, Brees territory and Kap is no Rodgers, Manning or Brees.

Speaking of Manning... Peyton passed his neck exam and is cleared to play in 2014.

Tony Romo is restructuring his contract to free up $10 million in cap space. They're turning about 12.5 million of his deal into a signing bonus. Why don't big market teams just do signing bonuses for everyone and create a bunch of cap space to build super-teams?

I'm not privy to the intricacies of how the salary-cap works but are signing bonuses guaranteed money? Therefore a higher signing bonus means more guaranteed money and a higher risk for the team?

In saying this though if a player's salary can be restructured to include a higher signing bonus I'm not sure why they wouldn't do this with the higher paid players each season.

Can anyone shed some light?

The 49ers need to do something about his deal. He's way underpaid for what he has done. 3 seasons leading his team to at least the conference championships, and 1 of them a SB appearance. How many other QBs out there has done that the last 3 years? The $18 million he's asking for is equivalent to Romo and Cutler, and Kaepernick has won more in the post-season than those 2. Look at the QBs SF has had since Jeff Garcia. They've finally found a winner after all these years. They need to step up and pay the guy. I mean, what's the alternative?

They were winning with Alex Smith before he got injured. So he at least deserves more than him.

When you compare his winningness over the last 3 years compared to the likes of Romo and Cutler, Kaep is definitely worth around the $18-19M mark per season

True, but they're a power running team. Yes he can make great runs, and some great passes. But he also runs into sacks, has accuracy issues, etc. Just cuz other teams over pay players, doesn't mean the Niners should. the real reason for success is the coaching.

All Day is campaigning to bring Michael Vick to the purple helmets of Minnesota.

Teams are going to chase DE Jared Allen and DE Michael Bennett.  RBs Darren Sproles, Kwonshon Moreno, Ben Tate, MJD, Rashad Jennings should attract some buyers.  WRs Eric Decker, Hakeem Nicks, Golden Tate... lots of big names.

Hoping the Broncos can shore up their defense through FA.

Raiders resigned Darren McFadden to a 1-yr $4 mil deal with their huge cap space. Really?

49ers traded some picks for Blaine Gabbert. I guess he would be a solid backup QB...and earn more than Kaepernick..haha

As expected, the Cowboys let Demarcus Ware go to free up cap space. Well, you can't get any worse than the worse defense in the league...so, why not...

The Broncos are really active in free agency..they also got Talib in addition to TJ Ward. They've also just landed DeMarcus Ware. Broncos D is getting scary...

In the mean time..Cowboys sign DE Jeremy Mincy (who?) and released Miles Austin. So disappointing...

TB signed Josh McCown.

Golden Tate joins Megatron in Detroit.

Exactly what I was hoping for.  After the Super Bowl fiasco they had to make some changes on Def.

Yup, Denver is all in to win in the next couple years while Peyton is still playing. Then, they'll have to blow up the team and deal w/ the salary cap problems that teams like New England and Dallas is facing now.

Hell yeah... T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib, DeMarcus Ware.  Defense is starting to take shape.

Broncos lose Decker but you can insert just about any serviceable WR in the lineup with Manning at QB.

Revis to the pats? Didn't see that coming. But so far I'm most surprised that whitner signed with the Browns. Yeah, he's from the area but to leave a winning team, to go to the Browns? Shocking!

Saints trade Sproles to the Eagles... interesting.  Sproles' wife wasn't happy with NO, she blasted the organization on Instagram.

Browns unload QBs Weeden and Campbell... which begs the question if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it still make a sound?  If Cleveland dumps a QB and no one cares does it really matter?  Cleveland has started 20 QBs since 1999... wonder who's next?  Hoyer?  Tanney (who?)?  Browns have the 4th, 26th and 35th overall picks in the draft, probably safe to assume they will select a QB with one of those picks.

Eagles with Nick Foles throwing the rock, LeSean McCoy AND Sproles from the backfield (you can put Sproles anywhere on the field, he does it all), DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Riley Cooper. With Chip Kelly's offense...who are you going to stop?
