what will be interesting to see what decisions the Lakers make  after a very average 2014/15 but only one more year on the Kobe deal.  Will they feel pressure to improve the roster and sacrifice 2016 free agency?  Will be good theater at least.

I don't think they will, you got to figure this is just a good bye year for Kobe. The best they can do is make the playoffs and give Kobe a nice goodbye. Otherwise I would look for teams to try to pick up Kobe halfway through the year if they feel they can win a title. He would be a good fit for Chicago who could use a proven scorer in the playoffs.

Kobe is coming back from injury..so he probably will not be playing like he did before. I think the Lakers will miss the playoffs again. Time for an overhaul.

Looks like Lebron is going with #23 again on his jersey. Surprised there wasn't a one hour special on this decision.

Funny how he said the number 23 should be retired by the league when he went to Miami and changed numbers. I guess he doesn't have the same respect for MJ as before? Shocked

hmmm that is interesting but I would truly be surprised if Kobe was traded.

Trading Kobe is just the right thing to do, to help him chase another ring. Because the Lakers can't get the players around him to contend, they can trade him to a team that will be playing for the Finals, and get some building blocks for the future in return.

You trade him because someone will be willing to give up a first round draft pick or two for him. The lakers are in need of a full rebuild.

^^ no... the Lakers should have to live with that pile of money that doesn't play well anymore. LOL

Who would pick up that contract? Or would LA have to pay someone else to send him away?

^ You're right, I don't know if any teams would want to pick up that contract. Unless he shows he's playing at that elite level again. But then, what contending team would be able to get enough cap room to take that contract?

There may be a team or two that are desperate enough for press that they'd pick him up... but they're not teams that would be contending anyway, so why bother?

Seems like bad news all around, all started, imo, with a horrible contract.

No team in their right mind would ever take on that ridiculous contract. Unless the Lakers decided to trade him, the only way is if they ate up a massive part of the contract (like all of it) and got a bunch of picks back. But that'll never happen. Lakers really shot themselves in the foot with this one.

And I'm fully enjoying the situation they created by giving him that contract.

Good to see Kobe still inspires so much discussion.

The last time Kobe was healthy he was still playing at an elite level so we shall see how he performs now that he is healthy again.  Kobe can put up twenty a night in his sleep as long as he is on the floor.  We shall have to wait and see how he holds up.

And yes no one will have the space to take him, who is competing most likely, unless you get an up and coming squad like Phoenix or something with space, lots of good players, and picks. But my understanding in basketball is that in trades the money has to even out.  But I will stick to my first reaction in that even if Kobe is playing great and a team wants him, and somehow the trade could be pulled off per the CBA, I would be shocked if he didn't retire a Laker.  That was part of the overpay in the first place.

I wonder how Chandler Parsons and James Harden are doing being on the same team playing for the US, after Harden dissed everyone on the Rockets roster last year and next year...except Dwight Howard. As a Mavs fan, I hope Parsons shows him up. LOL

^ Yes, everybody knows that. But, as a player, you don't come out and say it...
