^^ Wait... your wife is "Jeans Guy?"  Shocked   That has to be terrible.

In other news, Mt. Rose looks like it could be really bad-ass.  I've never researched it before, but the Chutes could be worth hitting when we make our Tahoe trip in a few years.

She is pretty much "jeans guy" when it's nice out:

@brymans photo

And as far as rose (don't tell anyone) but it's good when it's good.  On the other hand, they don't have all the extra infrastructure if you're into that, and the snowmaking/grooming/park situation is not up to "epic" standards

mt. rose is pretty small.  It's also super close to reno, so it's super crowded.  It sucks...especially on a powder day

Day five was epic because I ate shit and tore up my face.  It started as an early hike up Diamond Peak enjoying the beautiful day:

Corduroy

But then I hit some invisible ice when I stupidly left the groomers, then went toe to face before I could react.  The impact busted up my cheapo sunnies, which turned into face-shrapnel when they shattered:

Lens

The glasses basically ripped out my eyebrow hair too, which is lame.  I left a fairly serious red streak from the spot of the incident to the DP first aid station (hope no bears come out of hibernation because of this):

Art shot

And then my wife took me to the ER and got me all patched up:

Face plant

I think it cleaned up good.  I certainly could have been a lot more injured, but I think mostly just lacerations, contusions and abrasions.

We've gotten pretty lucky going up in the middle of the week.

One day it just started DUMPING snow just after the park opened. We're talking magical 4-6 inches of dry powder on the groomed runs (well, everywhere). And we didn't have  to share the run with weekend warriors/holiday goers... Awesome!

Bry,

OUCH! Ouch

Better Day 5 than Day One though amiright? :)

damnnn, bry...all that just for beefing on ice?!  I'll be wearing my goggles from now on, no matter what.

a while back, I got 8 staples in the top of my head from getting hit by a longboard (surfing).  If you can avoid it, never let them put staples in you...not so bad going in, but pulling them out is absolutely medieval

Well, last weekend was a good one.  Had a buddy in town for our annual shred weekend.

Saturday was day 6. The reported snow was 1 inch, but it was riding like 4 all day and 8 in blown places.  Buttery soft snow all day.  we rode stupid hard all day.

Day 7... not so much. We were pretty tired from the previous day's riding and a whole lot of shenanigans that night.  the snow firmed up quite a bit overnight, so it wasn't quite the day we were hoping for.  turns out, i was really beaten up from the day before, so we peaced out by 1.

We shot some footage on my little cheapo cam, but I keep forgetting to load it up and get some screen grabs.

4 days in Mammoth this past week. It was chill, felt like spring conditions with the sun out but we surprisingly had a couple of minutes of snow on Tuesday though. Highlight of the trip was lapping park with Mark McMorris and Chloe Kim. They were very chill and down to earth and it was just awesome to see ride in person.

That is awesome!  I don't have an eye for spotting out pros unless they have a whole film crew following them or people in general because faces are all covered up.  LOL

McMorris was easy to spot since he was just wearing shades. Kim was harder but I remembered her coaches name and he had a name tag. Plus, not many young asian girls throwing 7s in the park. If your in Mammoth, theres a really good chance you are riding with pros. Even ran into Tony Hawk at Tusk's a few times.

last few days of shredding... more of that pesky powder crap.  damn snow everywhere!

but in all seriousness... it's been great.  we must be about the only place in the country that is getting constant fresh snow.  I'm hearing all these numbers of base depths in the teens and 20s?  we're at........... 114 inches, apparently.

been riding the GNU beast and absolutely loving it for all things fresh snow and natural terrain.  mervin sure has a lockdown on making boards in the northwest for the northwest.  they told me they're making a beast split in the future too...... sooooooooo hell yes I'll be getting one.

Tahoe is in dire conditions.  Luckily we are tracking towards an average to above average season in CO.  hopefully another decent storm tonight, wednesday was some of the best snow in resorts in the last couple years.  no real big dumps but fairly consistent snow.  I'll take whatever falls!

new England isnt so bad right now. Got a huge dump last night didnt get out in it, we did hit that warm snap... but ive had 2 4-6 inch powder days, and i should have like 5 pow days.  The warm snap just prevented the progression to 100% open so they focused on maintenance on what they already had at night.

Days 6 and 7 with a quick-hitter couples trip to Mt. Baker.  The northwest is very different than what I'm used to in so many ways.  We got in Wednesday and posted up at a house in Glacier, totally amazing little ski town.  We planned to ride the resort Thursday but the conditions weren't that good (aka it was effing raining on the mountain) so we found the lodge bar for a few hours and then went back to town for happy hour.  (Turns out a busted-up face is a good way to make friends at the bar, great conversation starter anyway).

We had a touring day scheduled on Friday with a local guide, and to tell the truth we were a bit worried about the conditions the rain might create.  In tahoe that would probably be a bad thing.  But we stayed in contact with our guide and he seemed stoked about the weather, which at some point turned from rain to snow and started stacking.  We woke up to a foot of fresh and got out for a super fantastic touring day.  Wonderful terrain and forsome reason there was no one else  out there.  Here's a sample:

Bc

John over at Mt. Baker Mountain Guides threw up a little photo album on FB of our day, check it out:

https://www.facebook.com/mtbakerguides

He is legit if anyone is up there looking for directions I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.  We rode the resort on Saturday and since there was a little new snow and sunny conditions, which they don't generally get up there, it was a shit show.  Nice to see the place, however, and we had fun.

Came back to town today and apparently it's 60 degrees.  Guess it's time to pull the MTB out . . . .

day 11 on the NAS 59.  loving this thing.

wet and drizzly all day, with about 6" of fresh snow since yesterday.  it was sweet at the very top but off-trail was pretty slow, so we mostly lapped the east side that has groomers and side hits since the groomed stuff was fast.  super fun!  it was so soft that you could dig huge trenches with every turn, and almost felt like riding powder in some spots.

one of these days

so rad!  looks good 'round those parts

day 12 here.. more of that damn powder nonsense.

but really... awesome day!  the weather has been shitty lately, and based on sea level + yesterday's riding conditions, I was expecting a few inches of slow mush again, and riding in the drizzly rain... but I was surprised with 6-12" of medium-dry PNW greatness, no rain, and it even cleared up for half the day.  the turns were off the charts... got there for first tracks and hardly anyone showed up all day.

bri sending it, and chair-beers with dylan.  he's always prepared!

I'm looking for any excuse I can find to get up to Juneau.  In the meantime, we've officially reverted back to MTB season, which I'm embracing in the hopes my enthusiasm might make it snow.  I bought a new bike:

Uggghhhhh

I've also washed all my cars, and planned a beach trip to Tahoe next week.  Maybe I should book a tee time, not sure what else I can do at this point.

EDIT:  P.S. on our baker trip I was reminded of how delicious ranier beer can be, nom nomnom

We had one of the best weekends ever last weekend after about 12" of dry snow in the Catskills.  Unfortunately, warmer wet weather is here, I have to skip this weekend but if I'm lucky, there will be enough wind to kiteboard tomorrow.

I spent most of the weekend looking at deep, overhead blower photos from all over the country and crying in my beer.  But I did sneak up to the local hill yesterday for Day 8, and even had enough pep to ollie over my pov camera and create this gif in honor of this snowboard that thrive kicked me down:

^I've put 6 days on my Thrive Renegade this year so far.  Yesterday was by far the best day I've had on it.  It's a really great board for toodling around the mountain and jibbing and jiving.  Now, my DK is still my board of choice, but the Thrive is not a bad ride.  Super poppy, a nice shape and flex for me.  I definitely miss magna-traction though.  It has a larger rocker than camber at the ends, so it is predominantly rockered, makes it a little loose, but once again... fun to goof around with.  Also, the base is super hard.  After 6 days on it, and I'm treating it like a rock board, still no serious damage.  And it's super fast too.

Thrive makes some legit boards and their packages are the best i've seen.  I think you get a board/bindings/board bag for less than $400.  The board itself is worth that.

And to keep on topic.  Not sure how many days I've ridden but the last 5-6 trips up here have been great for snow.  A lot of the snow has been falling overnight making for great tracks in the morning.  Took a woodward lesson and i'll give them mixed reviews on that one.  90% of the instructors are great, a select few are tool "cool".  The facilities are top notch and when your only complaint is there is too much snow for the bigger jump lines...well life is good.

Spent birthday weekend at Mammoth. It was fun. Windy sat and even got a little snow. Sunday was bluebird with little stashes here and there. Dressed up as banana's just for fun :) Good ice breaker with people in the lift lines.

Aaaah Spenser that looks so delicious.

Well Spring has arrived in France! Or at least, that's what it felt like over the weekend. Got to go up to stay in a cabin up in the mountains with the local snowboard club, and do some snowshoe-generated riding. It snowed quite a bit here last weekend, but unfortunately since then it has rained and been way too sunny. Where there was snow, it was pretty much either ice or the slushiest of slush. At the very top of one of the passes on Saturday we got a couple hundred feet of decent pow turns at least. But despite the less-than-stellar snow, at least I got to enjoy some nice views, and I guess I can't complain too much about hiking around in a t-shirt all day.

Heading up the first day:

The banana suit looks nice and cozy.

That is one wide trail!  Is the ski season in Europe the same as in the US?  I want to hit the slopes in Europe someday and might as well visit some family I guess.
Sessions sucks hairy monkey balls, the end.

Art piece selfie from Sunday's day 8.  Apparently I got a little snuggly with a tree... didn't realize it until I came in for some eats.  Mrs. Diggidy makes a cameo in this shot too.

I really need to remember to start taking more pics on mountain.  I just get really wrapped up in riding and totally forget.

Yup, pretty much exactly the same. Get out here! While I still haven't experienced the mountains in all their snowy glory yet, I can see how awesome it would be if will be when we get a big storm.

Most resorts in the US close early to mid April with a few exceptions that last into July, I was thinking Europe's season should last longer than April since they're closer to the north pole right?  LOL  Because I can only take long vacations before Jan 10 and after April 15th.  Cry

All I can say is thank god for surf...on the bright side I read that of the worst starts to the season which this definitely qualifies for Tahoe most of them ended up with 75% of annual average snowfall...which means either this is going to be the worst season ever or we should be in for a couple powder months...even the worst season on record had 170 inches...which would mean 10 feet of snow for Tahoe between now and the end of the season...that is not a ton obviously with two prime months remaining but hell anything is welcome at this point...anyways odds are strongly in our favor to pick up a couple dense months of snow...let's hope!

You all in Tahoe tend to save your snow for March.  I swear you get 20 feet of snow every other March.

The ridge over Tahoe is coming our way for the next week, though several of our resorts have had at least 5 feet so far this month.  That's great here since we don't get rain and our temps usually stay low enough to keep all the snow.
