Ok... So I bought a used board off ebay.. price was good...a little too good, which makes me skeptical.

2014 NS Premier 163 - Ridden one times(as per buyer)
207.00 + Shipping.
There is some minor surface scratches.. hardly visible, and a semi-circle shaped heavy gouge on the base towards the nose... its not really that deep but definitely noticeable when running your finger across it... As for the edges, I dont really know. They look fine to me..

Is there anything that you look for in particular when buying a used board?

The things you just mention are what I would have been looking for, but it actually sounds like you got a legit deal.  Can you post some pictures of the gouge on the base?

only one damage on the base which not even worth mention is a good deal especially it's the current season board. i don't know what you worry about when everything sounds like an almost brand new board to me.
hmmm... Now What???

My opinion is that is very minor.  Considering the best deal I can find online for this board (new) is $382 I would consider $207 a deal unless he gouged you on shipping.  I think you got quite a bargain.

No dimples on the board. The wax looked dried, it has a crackled type pattern. I thought it was the board itself, but I was able to scratch it off. shipping was 25...so 232 total. Hope theres no inner damage...Im just paranoid when I buy stuff off ebay. Ill have to wait till next season to give it a go..

there's probably nothing wrong with it...sometimes people just want to get rid of perfectly good stuff, quick.  I've been known to let stuff go for rock bottom just because I knew I was never going to use it again and I just wanted it out of my house, asap.

The edges look clean, but check to see if there are any cracks (even then, a cracked edge isn't really going to affect anything...especially on a freeride board)

"dimples" kinda look like the owner put a storage coat of wax on a never scraped it off (?)...if so, the fact he put storage wax on means he knows what he's doing and cared about the board.  If that's after he scraped, that's a pretty shitty wax job and might be cause for concern

those "gouges" are nothing but shallow scratches - they won't affect performance at all (you'll probably do worse the first day you ride it).  In fact, I've ridden with a giant 4" long / 1/2" wide chunk of ptex ripped out of my board, core completely exposed, and there was no detectable difference in glide.

if that's a board you wanted, it's a good deal.  the wax, the scrapes don't really matter much.  The board would most likely show external damage if there was something wrong with the core.  That's a big board, I wouldn't be surprised if it just wasn't the wrong size for the individual selling it.

yeah, that thing looks clean as hell.  I would stop worrying about it immediately and go out and shred.  Congrats on the clean pickup!

That's a hell of a deal man!

When I'm looking at a used deck, it's really all about the previous owner.  One big thing is, I want to weigh more than he does.  You don't want to buy a board that's already tired or anything.  (also how many days on it... over 10? it better be daaang cheap)

Also, I like to look at the edges.  if they are rusty or pitted, he probably didn't store it the same way i would have (nice think summer layer on it).  or sharpened them the way i do (i keep mine razor sharp)

I also will not buy a board that has ghosting on the base... that base could be burned, and i don't want to put up with its wax needs.

I give more props to someone who "over shares" as well.  like if they put pics up of really minor damage/scratches etc.  means they probably don't have much to hide.
