I saw an article saying that you should put a coat of wax on your board before you store it for off season...

"2. Do it yourself -- a snowboard cleanup and hot wax at home.
If the base of your board is dirty, purchase a general base cleaner at your local board shop. Follow the instructions on the bottle to clean the base of your snowboard. Then apply a coat of hot wax. You don't need to scrape the wax until next winter, then give it a quick scrape and you'll be ready to go. "

"Take the iron and spread a nice heavy coat of wax that covers the entire base and edges. This will keep the base from drying out over the summer and keep the edges from rusting. Now, when winter rolls around, all you've got to do is scrape the wax from the base and edges and you are ready to go."

Is this really a good idea or is it not good to leave wax on for that long?

its a good idea to leave a thick coat of wax on so your base will not dry up in off season.  and right before the season starts, scrape off and rewax if you want and you are good to go.

I used a half of one of those dakine pucks you guys had there for $2.50 on both of my boards for the end of this season.  Can't beat cheap wax to inspire you to coat your boards for the summer.

I usually do this, but if your living space gets hot, I wouldn't suggest it as it will melt all over your bag.Confused

how hot does it get there? it maybe reaches the high 90's here and i may get residue or the inside of the bag may feel waxy, but i never seen the wax melt off.

If it got hot in your living space, it could melt off the wax.
I wouldn't want a waxy bag is all I was sayin.
