Come on now... Ya gotta have talent to ride a snowboard.
And regarding file resolution, my files are vector and exported to a low resolution just so everyone can see it without filling the entire page. |

The Sierra logo IS really small and a little hard to manipulate, so I made this in case someone needed a clearer logo. It's a basic take on it, but feel free to copy it and use it as your own as you please.

yah for resolution. The standard for print to say paper or something like that is 300. Computer monitors or on screen viewing is 72. I design using Illustrator, so all my designs are vector also. (which means they can be blown up to any size possible withough loosing quality!)
One problem is that you are going to have to work out the legal issues. Eveything we use is going to have be designed by us because we can not steal pics or anything because the final design will be sold for a profit. So like for the last board i did, i just used pics off of google for the boarders, you will have to get legal rights for pics or just take your own if you were to use that idea... That is why designs using vector designed by people on this forum will be the best thing, no legal problems! Just a heads up! ![]()
Also, all the designs are rockin!!!! How are you guys going to pick the top ones?

Trevinous, that is so sick! I was thinking about this yesterday and I thought it would be cool to get pictures from when people were kids. I have pictures from when I was 3 and playing in the snow in Ohio. You could call the board something like, "My first Pow" Now that I write that it seems a little mushy. Oh well, I would buy one. Excuse me, I have to go cry about something. I'm out! |

I think we need to do a few things:
1) Figure out the deadline for submissions
2) Figure out how the winners will be chosen
3) Set some guidelines for the submissions. As someone earlier said making sure they are at least a certain size and it has to be original work to avoid any legal problems etc.
Most of these designs look real professional. Considering I don't have Illustrator how can I also put something together that at least rivals some of these professional-looking designs? Will sketches cut it? Any ideas?

well, i don't know how Sierra is set up, but at my company when we have design or naming contests everyone submits their stuff, the selected staff picks the top ten or so (seeing as they will be used for about 5 boards) and those are submitted to legal dept. the ones that are left are either the winners or are chosen by the staff. and whoever does the designs should probably have to sign something saying all the artwork is original. |

cnr913...i like the top sheat of the board u designed...make that bear bigger and more bold. I say do something different that the golden gate bridge (it seems chiche especially since u are representing CA on the top). i say something more punk rock or core on the bottom! food for thought...conservative on top, punk on bottom. I am digging the retro color ways though

I just finished some bear clean-up and made him bigger (unless you mean SUPER huge within the confines of the boards waist), although he could be a little bolder. Here's a close up (Sorry for making everybody squint). I'll see what I can do for a base. Thanks for the input BTW.

For the record, it's not my view, I love Sierra. The owner might be in it primarily to make money, but they have a great staff and the best deals around. It's just the general vibe I got from talking to the owner of a local shop and I was curious how this would affect things in that crowd. |

Just because Sierra does thing efficiently doesn't necessarily mean that the owner is just in it for the money. Why does ANYONE open a shop?? A) to make money and B) because it's obviously a passion of theirs. The roots run deep all around this store, from the owner to the staff.

I don't mean to come off like an a-hole here because I understand your point David. Seeing snowboarding inside and out, from different view points over the last fifteen years has lead me to few conclusions. First, snowboarding sold out over a decade ago. Two, I used to be that guy who hated on Burton because they are just in it for money, but that changed as soon as I realized that everyone is in it for money. Businesses are in business of making money, from Burton to that little tiny hole in the wall shop that is "core." Third, I serious have reservations regarding the entire "core" shop or company thing. I for one refuse to pay extra money for the "core" image. I refuse to fall victim to marketing BS. I just want a quality product. In the words of me: "If you give me something good, I will like it."
Anyways, I don't really think this will be the end of Capita or anything. True, a lot of "core" shops don't like us, but that is because we are successful and are therefore serious competitors. Most of the online "hate" is and was confined to a small online clique...not even a community in general. To be honest, 99% of the Capita fans won't give a damn one way or another.
As far as our business, yeah we do get some things at good cost. But I am betting this is primarily late season stuff that we can clear out the manufacturers on. However, I have seen many of the prices we pay, and they are nothing too special. I am betting most of the goods are the same price everyone else pays, but I only work at one place. For the most part we offer lower prices because we cut the profit margin down. We run business efficiently. In the end, everyone should be asking themselves why they should pay more from the "core" shop?

we should have all the regular forum members send in a pic of themselves, then we can make a collage of pics on the topsheet
then it can be really cool and personal because we know all of the people. i'd buy it for sure if it had everyone on it and i love the blue mountain base. it reminds me of the vapor base a while ago ![]() ![]() ^^^^^^see the similarity's in the bases^^ |

I'd like to point out again that: A.) I like you guys and B.) it's not my opinion, I was just relating the viewpoint I heard from another shop owner and I'm just curious how it'll affect Capita's relationship with other shops. Like I told you a few months ago, I'm not really one to get caught up in marketing ploys and whatnot. Just to play devil's advocate though, I can certainly understand why "core" board industry people would take issue with Sierra. For one, your guys' item descriptions aren't terribly helpful and kind of scream "everything we sell is great!" (though admittedly it's still better than say Dogfunk/Backcountry). Second, the general Burton-whoring (I mean the header on the front page is "Burton Snowboards and Skis, Burton Bindings, Burton Boots..." does kind of give off the vibe of money grubbing. Again, just playing devil's advocate. |

OK so...someone had to say it, so Ill be the one... I'd ride it. (Yeah...I did...)
Also, to what Brody was saying about 99% of Capita fans not caring that they made the boards for Sierra...I would agree. That would be like a loyal Fruit Loops eater not eating Fruit Loops anymore because they found out that the people who make Fruit Loops were also making the same cereal for an off brand knock off.

I mean seriously, why does it even matter? I do the majority of my shopping at a "core" shop in VT (I live in NYC) and the only reason I do it is because I love the owner and the guys who work there. Wouldn't really matter to me if those guys owned/ran Burton R Us or some hole in the wall. I'm going back there due to their customer service, great selection and the discount they offer to regular customers. Regardless of Sierra Snowboards' relationship with Capita I'm sure from the shop's perspective as long as Capita boards continue to sell they will continue to carry the brand.
Anyway, lets not try to get too off topic here. This thread is meant to be about the snowboard design competition not debating whether one sold out or not. I'm digging the following ones: ![]() ![]() The first one I think reminds me of an idea I was trying to use myself. It was supposed to resemble a ransom note (with the magazine cut-outs). Totally agree it has the 08 Dom feel. Zagfan, when I saw that base that's the first thing I thought too (that it reminded me of the Vapor). |

No, I understand completely. I know it is not your opinion. I like you David
Second, I agree with your observation on the item descriptions. I didn't write any of them but I read hundreds of them when I attempted to hastily edit for grammar. The good news is that the community will be writing the reviews in the future. More on that later...email me if you want.
Again, selling mucho Burton is part of what keeps businesses alive and they all are in it for money, whether they don't come off that way or not. Again, in our overhaul of the website, I will keep that particular thing in mind.
Anyways, back on topic. If you guys have any questions, rants, or raves regarding this dicussion, email me, PM me, or start a new thread. Got to keep it on track

I like the base. It's actually would look pretty nice as a topsheet design. Only thing I'd like to mention is it seems like there are lots of skull designs already for 08 (eg. 08 Burton Twin). |

Cool more pics 'n shit... I thought everyone just gave up since it's been so slow.
lol... just kidding I've actually seen very few snowboards prior to this year because I just started gettin into snowboarding this year. My bad for ripping off someone else's stuff... but hey, atleast I'm ripping off a high end board ... (damn I was going to put a shooting star/north star or something in the middle too... But I was lazy...)
I could also make it orange and call it the "Rick James."... yeah?...Dave Chappelle?... Orange Aura?...anyone?... ok maybe not.
I'D HIT.. I mean... rider her... I mean... WHAT?!
Na, I'm just joking... a little.
Awww, u make me feel all warm and toasty inside... Thanks a lot man.
Actually, thanks to everyone who digs my shit... Means a lot. Lets me know I'm in design for a good reason and I'm not just wasting my time.
...Hey why's everyone running away? |

Thanks, meng!!! I guess for people to see the base you'd have to go big or go home. j/k ![]() I'm open to changes. If the person/people picking the final designs likes a base as a topsheet of mine better (or vice versa), that's still cool with me. I don't know if anybody else feels this way, but this feels like a group effort to me and not a contest. Everybody putting in ideas and opinions to come up with a final product is, to me, the best way to do things without everybody kicking and punching. We're like a well oiled machine with individual moving parts, working to generate a final result. |
