The season is creeping up. Don't get caught on the hill the first day unprepared

Yeah, be careful on your edges. They are not difficult if you know what you are doing; however, they can be permantely damaged if you do them incorrectly. I think a video on this will be very good.
Also keep in mind that tuning an edge can entail many different things. For instance, it could mean deburring or detuning a edge. This is very easy and not very sophisticated. In fact, a lot of seasoned riders will carry a gummy stone or something in their pocket to quickly remove burrs from rocks and rails. However, setting a new edge bevel is very intimidating. Even I, after many years, will take my race boards to a very trusted shop tech to have this done.

that's not a bad video, but one thing to caution is how much you should file off... as some ppl detune, they sometimes sharpie their edges so they know how much to detune (when the black marker on the edge goes away).

Should you tune the edges on a brand new board that you just bought from the store? And about how much does it coast for a shope to tune your edges?

do not tune your edges on a brand new board. out of the factory your edges are as sharp and clean as they will ever be. in fact, you may want to de-tune or dull part of your edge on a brand new board. park riders like to do this so the board slides smoothly on handrails.

My bad i ment to say de-tune a new board. So what do u think would be better to de-tune it or let the board get dull on its own?

its best to detune a little bit right out of the bag cuz the edges r
extremely sharp. depending on how u ride it how much u
detune. for instance on my park boards i completely round my
edges so that they dont catch on rails or boxes. if ur just gonna
be riding groomers or pow its best to only detune slightly.

ok
1. what is a sac town? 2. i can't remember how far i should detune. i have all Mervin boards so i don't have to deal with the tip/tail. but how much should i leave sharp if i want an all mountain board, that can work in the park some, and won't catch as easily? 3. how often do you need a base grind? is it only if you can't fix the scratches with P Tex? oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh. i thought it was some sort of dig against NYorkers.
" yea to bad you guys are in sac town." which came right after Nu-Nu's post about the $75 tune. hence the misunderstanding. Edited by evernod - Sep/28/2006 at 2:58pm |

i would think to detune the edges too so you don't catch on the rails.

any of you East Coast types, that ride the whole mountain, detune your effective edge?
i was watching those videos again and in the last one, the guy said that maybe you leave the factory tune, for the effective edge, as it is - if you mostly ride the ice and hardpack like me Edited by evernod - Sep/29/2006 at 2:29pm |
