It's been about 4 months now since I started my push-up challenge and this is my 2nd progress photo. Here's the first one: http://instagram.com/p/r-ejD9utWq. I try to take one every 2 months. It was a definite change in lifestyle and diet.
It all started with push-ups: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYutNdsfEO1If9hEtep9ERt-XyzKKwOwQ
After that, I just continued to push myself harder. I try to work out at least 3 times a week. A lot of push-ups, various sit-ups and crunches, pull-ups, dips, much of the exercises using my own weight or some free weights. I do a lot of reps though, generally try to max out every set. I try to hit all muscle groups every time I work out. If I feel soreness and aches the next day, then I know I did a good job.
I started seeing accelerated results when I added more cardio (soccer and basketball).
BUT, the biggest change that I think has made the biggest difference is my diet. I eat about 1/3 of what I used to eat. Proper portions has been key, though I have been trying to make smarter choices too. I cut out juice, milk, pop, coffee, etc. (except on social occasions), and have stuck to water. I generally avoid fast food. I have reduced carbs a lot. I no longer eat till I'm uncomfortably full.
Seeing muscle growth after just two weeks really motivated me to go further. Now, I try to workout Monday morning, then soccer Monday night. On Wednesdays I have ball for a couple hours, and in between games I do push-ups and side touch ab swivels with elevated feet (I'm reaching about 400 reps each exercise at the end of the night). If I don't feel that soreness the next day, I know I didn't do enough. Then I try to fit in a 3rd workout day on Fri or Sat.
I'm pretty proud of my progress and hope to push even further! Still working on that 6-pack.
Hopefully this can help inspire others to live a healthier lifestyle as well.
