DC’s Travis Rice Wins Nokia Air & Style 06
(DC Snowboards) Last weekend nearly 30,000 people turned out to Munich’s Olympic Stadium for Nokia Air & Style 06.
DC proudly sponsored the event once again, and DC Snowboard Team Member Travis Rice took home the win amidst very stiff competition. As one of the biggest events of its kind, the event was truly everything you’d want from a weekend, including a Snowboard Big Air comp, Freestyle Motocross battle, and some of Europe’s top music acts.
Nokia Air & Style was the first big snowboard comp of the year, and the riders were fired up to show off the tricks they had dreamed up during the off-season. This meant one thing for the fans: a great show. 1080’s, 1260’s, double backs, and double corks were just some of the tricks being thrown out across the big kicker, ensuring that riders were going to have to fight hard if they wanted the Nokia Air & Style win.

As if the snowboarding Big Air event wasn’t enough, Nokia Air & Style 06 also featured a similar knockout style freestyle motocross competition, featuring the likes of DC’s Nate Adams. The good thing about this year’s event set-up was that the FMX course was weaved into the snowboarding course, a design that sent freestyle competitors over the Big Air’s second fun kicker. For the fans, this meant that the event was way easier to watch. Nate, who was last year’s champ, just missed the bar and took third place this year.
Things got really heated when it came down to the final few rounds in the elimination style snowboarding comp. T.Rice progressed through round one with a double corked 1080, but really had to step-up in the final battle as the rest of the guys unleashed some gnarly ones, including a frontside double cork 1260 from David Benedek and a frontside 1260 nose grab from Antti Autti. But, when Travis stomped a double backflip 180 the crowd (and the rest of the riders) went bonkers”T.Rice was declared the winner.
We’re currently two snowboard comps deep into the 2007 season, and DC’s Travis Rice has won them both: first Icer Air in San Francisco and now Nokia Air & Style 06 in Munich. Keep it up T.Rice!
