Vermont Avalanche warning? 3 to 4 feet of snow
Thursday, February 15th, 2007After a pretty dismal showing of snow (or lack thereof). The East is getting hit with possibly one of the biggest storms of the year. Detune those edges for some urban rail riding or get up to the hills for some sweet powder slashes. Stowe has actually announced an Avalanche warning for backcountry riding.

ATTENTION, PLEASE! AVALANCHE WARNING! Stowe Mountain Rescue has issued an advisory that anybody considering travel in the backcountry should be alert to extemely high avalanche danger, due to the recent heavy snowfall. With continued cold temperatures forecasted, it is expected that these conditions will continue through the weekend into next week.

Resort News: POWDER DAY!
**2:00 p.m. UPDATE** 18³ Already and its still dumping!!!
Nothing says lovin’ like a whole lottla Valentine PowPow! The biggest storm of the season with one to two feet of SNOW forecasted to fall is here through Thursday!

At 2:30pm it is still snowing heavily up here at the mountain. Currently it is snowing at a rate of 4 to 6 inches per hour. It is quickly piling up and so far we have received about 12 inches. Why not call a Stratton Snow Day! It has snowed all day and this morning we had some of the finest powder this side of the Rockies.

Happy Valentine’s Day, skiers and riders! Well, if you were at the mountain today, you would know that it was epic. The first true powder day of the year!! The snow just keeps on coming, and forecasters are predicting a storm total of over 24 by tomorrow!! Today we received 8-12 inches at the base, and 12-14 inches at the summit.

Getting dumped on Valentine’s Day is generally a bad thing. But this storm dumped us hard and we couldn’t be more thrilled. It certainly helps to have 12 inches of fresh powder to break your fall! I’ve never seen Heath, our ski patrol manager, smile so wide as when he described the thigh-high powder run he took through The Trials, one of our glades on the North Face that opened today.
