Story from Snowboard-mag.com

Opening Day: Tuesday, October 16, 2007

It’s looking great here at Loveland Ski Area. The storm that moved in Saturday night left us with over a foot of fresh snow. As you can see on the photo page, our new snowcats are out on the trails and you know that means-opening day is on it’s way! That’s right, Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Loveland Ski Area will be open for business with awesome early season snow.

Every season Loveland Ski Area starts making snow as soon as temperatures reach consistent lows, typically in late September. Snowmaking has several great benefits for our skiers and riders. First, we are able to open in Mid to Late October, making Loveland Ski Area consistently one of the first ski areas in the country to open. Second, you don’t have to bother with using your old stuff for our early season. Loveland opens with a minimum base of 18 inches and side-to-side, top to bottom coverage on our 1,000 vertical foot opening day run; those opening day adages didn’t start here! Last but certainly not least, Loveland’s 160 acres of snowmaking provides a solid base and something cold to stick to when the first of our 400 inches of natural snow begins to fall - no powdery snowflake is wasted at Loveland.

Our help from New Zealand has arrived! Just after we fired up our snowguns on September 24th, our snowmakers from New Zealand began arriving. These snowmaking experts follow winter around the globe and help ensure that once the conditions are right we have round the clock experienced snowmakers on our mountain doing what they do best.

New K2 Auto Binding

Friday, October 12th, 2007

auto-binding.jpg

This season K2 Snowboarding has found a way to reduce weight, enhance performance and simplify adjustability in a strap binding with the introduction of its new patent-pending Auto-System Technology. Through the system, the toe strap automatically closes and opens with the ankle strap. In short, one ratchet, two straps. With super lightweight performance and unequalled speed, K2 Auto technology hails a whole new generation of bindings.

How it works: an internal system connects the ankle and toe strap creating a one ratchet entry and exit. As the ankle strap is ratcheted, the toe strap automatically tightens, and in unison, draws the boot snuggly into the binding. Releasing the toe strap simultaneously releases the ankle strap. Toe and ankle strap tension are independently customizable. The Set-and-Forget toe strap enables riders to set the tension once and the system returns to that tension every time the ankle strap is ratcheted.

Auto System Technology is found in the 2007 K2 Auto binding. The all-mountain design is enhanced by a new Auto Chassis with a one-piece fiberglass reinforced nylon design that unites super lightweight mobility and flex with quick responsiveness and durability ideal for booters in the backcountry or staircases in the city.
