3/6/2007 6:00:15 PM First time riding outside the East Coast! Any specific runs to look out for? What part of the mountain should I stick to? I'm going to have one free day where I won't be riding. Is there anything interesting at the village to do for that day? What to explore? Or should I hit up Vancouver and check out the city. Anything interesting there? LASTLY, anyone riding in Whistler that same week? I'd love to ride with you guys...
3/5/2007 8:04:35 PM Not to sound like a noob, but what the hell is a bowl? I'm imagining an actual bowl of all snow, surrounding by mountains on all sides. Or maybe it's just part of a mountain that is sunken in in the center. And while we are at it... what about glaciers? The resorts built on glaciers... is it actually just built on the ice? And is the glacier moving?
3/4/2007 4:06:18 AM There's a GNU Danny Kass Snowboard marked down to $246 from $488 followed by some Rome bindings. Deep in the queue, we also have a men's Icebreaker Jacket for about $110. Too bad I'll be on the slope rather than in front of the computer... wonder which Rome bindings they are going to put on.
2/27/2007 5:50:11 AM I'll be staying at a place near Pico, taking the shuttle to Killington everyday.
2/26/2007 7:15:17 AM Looks like we got some sweet snow in NYC. Anyone want to hit up the Creek tomorrow?
2/21/2007 6:09:56 AM My friend got this a few years ago. Decided to take it out for a spin this past weekend with my Ride BETA bindings. Anyone know who makes these promotional boards? Probably some crappy Chinese company eh? Doubt Elan would touch these hehe.
2/20/2007 3:34:30 PM I'm no skateboarder, but I found this ad pretty entertaining: http://www.eatpes.com/sneaux.html
2/20/2007 12:18:44 PM Wonder what they will change their name to now... http://www.twsbiz.com/twbiz/industrynews/article/0,21214,1591790,00.html Posted 02.20.2007 February 13, 2007 Today, the participants in the M3 (Millennium 3) Vs. M4 (Millennium 4) trademark litigation proceedings announced a settlement binding all parties to an agreement in the resolution of this issue. Under the terms of the agreement, Cold Sports Distribution Inc.and Elan will immediately cease all sales and advertising activity Worldwide. Cold Sports Distribution and Elan will honour all order commitments, and Elan will produce the snowboards, for these commitments. As of December 31, 2007, all activity around the M4 name with respect to snowboards and related goods will cease and the M4 name will no longer be available. This is the best solution available, in order not to penalize our dealers. It also allows everyone a graceful exit, and avoids costly litigation, all parties have agreed. Shaun Morris of A. Mordo & Son Ltd. states “We encourage all dealers who have made a commitment to M4 to live up to that commitment. While we regret that this was ever an issue, our hope is that all parties keep the dealers interests first and foremost.” "Evolving our brand name will give us a chance to incorporate more of the passion our Team has for snowboarding into our branding. The philosophy, aesthetic and focus on quality upon which M4 was founded will not change. The new branding will only amplify it." -Blaise Rosenthal "We have agreed to change the name of our M4 line of snowboards for the 08-09 collection to avoid potential confusion with Millennium Three Snowboards. All M4 boards will retain their full warranty coverage guaranteed by the Elan factory, and Cold Sports will continue to provide the high level of customer service and satisfaction we're known for. We're confident in the quality of our products and in our ability to transition the momentum of M4 into our new brand name for our 08-09 collection." -Bruce Caslowitz
2/20/2007 8:45:10 AM You may have already seen this on Future Snowboarding's blog... but just in case: http://www.futuresnowboarding.com/blog/2007/01/burtons-six-travels/ I was going to put this up on the thread we linked to that great long article about Jake Burton Carpenter, but I couldn't find it. I emailed them asking for a copy, or at least a PDF file =T. This would make great reading material on a flight...
2/15/2007 12:45:50 PM     or         I've mentioned this a few times in my other posts. In the beginning of the season I was dead set on getting the DC Judge, then I decided to keep riding my old F24s, now I'm looking at the F20s. Anyone have opinions as to which I should swing towards?   I tried on the DC Judge at the beginning of the season (so long ago, I don't remember much about it). I think it fit okay, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but I also don't remember it giving me that wow factor.   I tried on the F20s recently and thought it fit great, MUCH better than my F24s, I have wide feet, and usually that's not good for the Salomon Fusion line, but for some reason the F20 felt like it had room in all the right places.   The reason I like the Judge is because of the air bladder and BOA (though I heard single zone BOAs suck). I've heard BOAs are easy to snap, but I rode with a friend a few times and I like how they are able to loosen up the boot at will for the lifts and tighten them quickly when they are ready to ride. That's not the case with laces, or even the Salomon quick laces. They also have a little more forward lean and it might have more cushioning at the bottom? I don't see any gel / air cushion like material on the bottom of the F20s (though it may just be covered).   What to do? I can get the F20s from Sierra for about $160 after shipping, or the DC Judges from Trusnow for $182 shipped.   I could also stick with my F24s and wait to buy something at the end of next season, not sure if it's worth it. The F24s are on their third season and feel really packed in. They are okay for a normal day, but on long trips, for example my upcoming Whistler trip, I have a feeling I'm going to be feeling some foot pain on the third day. I bought the Surefeet (green) from Sierra but haven't put them in yet... if I stick with my F24s, I'll make sure to have them in before Whistler.dcdomain2007-02-15 13:09:43
2/15/2007 11:21:53 AM From an eBay auction I found, it's a 2007 board. The regular version doesn't seem to be as discounted. Is the LTD any good? I got a few friends into snowboarding and am convincing them to buy their own setups, but they don't want to spend much. They've been showing me crappy old boards from eBay / Craigslist and I would rather have them drop $120 on a new Atomic than some 5 year old K2 Gamma.   Your thoughts? For the other guy, it's either buy a board or he's going with some Bass Ale branded freebie board (no knows any details about that board right?) he got a few years ago.   dcdomain2007-02-15 11:34:28
2/6/2007 7:58:59 AM Planet Earth http://www.coolhunting.com/archives/2007/02/planet_earth_gr.php The Surf Industry is getting in on the act of saving Planet Earth, how about the Snowboard industry? Does anyone know how damaging it is to produce our gear? I would think that boards made in American and Europe are probably a little more environmentally conscious than those produced in China. The companies that incorporate bamboo, are those enviro-friendly? How and where are they farmed? Any chemicals we should be aware of (the glue that sticks everything together)? Anyway, this would be a great way for a company to differentiate themselves from the other manufacturers. Perhaps Quiksilver should go in this direction since they have so many sub companies producing hardgoods. Quicksilver (planned), DC (announced), Lib Tech, GNU, Roxy (already segmented)... it'd be nice to make one brand completely green, they could refine the process on that line and then have the other lines adopt it. It's cool to be green . Planet Earth makes snowboarding softgoods, so I guess there's hope...
2/6/2007 7:30:46 AM Mentioned this in the community-dead thread, so we can find more stuff to talk about related to snowboarding, I've posted up the links I usually visit. Care to add to the list? http://snowbroader.wordpress.com/ http://www.highlyobsessed.com/blog http://www.hittingkickers.com/ http://www.afterbang.co.uk/ http://thedangerousofficial.blogspot.com/ http://snowboarding.about.com/ http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/blog/snowline/ (by Hoon) http://hoonhwang.blogspot.com/ (Hoon's) http://thesnowboarding.com/ (hasn't been updated) http://www.firsttracksonline.com/index.php http://www.newwest.net/index.php/snow_blog/main/C458/L41 airik2007-02-06 13:46:56
1/31/2007 9:49:30 AM I was perusing some other forums and collected some quotes related to snowboarding. I looked around Sierra and didn't find a similar thread so I thought we'd start one. You guys got any? There are also a lot of funny quotes from this article which has been around for a while: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/living/columnists/dave_barry/13861456.htm "I tell you the truth, The Kingdom of Heaven is like the brave snowboarder who enters through the narrow opening in the trees. He finds many fresh turns there, and blessings of all kinds. And there is weeping and gnashing of teeth on the icy groomed runs for the lazy snowboarder who takes the wide open path." "I know a lot of people that used to ski, but I don't know anyone who used to snowboard." "Snowboarding is not a sport its a lifestyle." "Ride to live. Live to ride." "Everyone knows that no one is in control, really, but at the same time, if you're gonna be out of control, at least do it where you can land it, and not end up broken and lost." Shawn Farmer - Riders on the Storm "Many people attach snowboards to their feet; few attach them to their souls." "Your parents say you need direction. What's wrong with down?" "You can never own the snow but you can sure try as hard as you want to tame it." "The snowboard is your friend. It has never lied to you, never broken a promise and is always there when you need it- and if it isn't, it's not it's fault!" "Some people have all the fun. I like to call those people, the Snowboarders." "There are no friends on a powder day." "Go big or go home." dcdomain2007-01-31 10:32:12
1/30/2007 11:35:49 AM * please note: dcdomain didn't post this...my first post got deleted by accident, so i had to add it in on this one, cheers...erik   this pic was just too good to pass up on doing something with... thanks to jordan b and ben sierra now has our own professional photography studio in the warehouse (product pics will be entertaining from now on)... we caught jared having some fun and so he're the deal: -you have several ways to enter: 1) edit the background of the image (like the colbert report did with the star wars greenscreen). ie. use photoshop and place jared on the moon. 2) if you aren't a photoshop wiz come up with a catchy caption or add campaign ("Lucky Jeans, because everyone needs some luck") 3) suggest another entry way???? (jared doesn't know we have this pic up yet...so keep it on the raps for now) First Place Winner chosen by our staff wins a Planet Earth First Layer Top Size L.  We'll have a pic of it up soon...
