3/10/2009 8:53:13 AM because Drunk, Homeless snowboarders cannot live on free Wendy's, Jack-in-the-Box, and IHOP alone!!! Post your favorite recipes! Anyone can make Tuna Helper or Mac and Cheese (I hope) so get up some good ones! I'll start it off: Crusty Grilled Sandwiches 1 ounce fresh Parmesan cheese, grated (about ΒΌ cup) 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened 1 garlic clove, pressed 8 slices sourdough bread 8 ounces sliced Monterey Jack cheese (we often use cheddar) 8 ounces sliced deli ham 4 teaspoons Dijon mustard 1 medium tomato, sliced into 8 thin slices (optional) 4 teaspoons snipped fresh basil leaves (optional) Grate the parmesan cheese into a small bowl. Add softened butter and pressed garlic. Mix well On 4 slices of bread, evenly layer half the cheese and all of the ham. For each sandwich, spread the ham with 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard; top with 2 tomato slices and 1 teaspoon snipped basil, if desired. Cover with remaining cheese and bread slices. Spread butter mixture over the outside of the sandwiches. Place sandwiches on griddle or fry pan over medium heat; cook 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. Cut sandwiches in half and serve. Serves 4 Prep/Cook time: 25 minutes
2/18/2009 8:34:14 AM I was pointing my buddy to the sale today, and he's thinking about picking up the Stairmaster, but the largest size left is the 156. At 190lbs, we were talking about whether he'd have issues on an already softer board. Anyone with experience on the board have thoughts?
2/10/2009 12:29:17 PM Edit: Trying to see if I can't get to Washington. Make offers.  Alright, at Crabberapple's suggestion, I'm throwing this thread up here. As some on the forum might know, I'm a trained illustrator working in a bunch of traditional and digital media. Since my day job isn't providing any raises this year (better than layoffs, I know) and with a family to support, my gear slut card has been officially revoked by my wife (I'm not bad enough to be a gear whore yet). That said, I sling a mean paintbrush, so I figured I'd throw some feelers out to see if people are willing to trade my skills for some gear. What I do: **Scroll down in this thread for samples of work. There's some paintings/photos in my profile, and this thread. There's also more on my blog (http://benjaminfoster.blogspot.com/ that's mostly in process stuff) and, if you're really interested, older/sketchbook stuff here http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55639.  I'm willing to negotiate for existing work at really reasonable rates (assuming it's still in my possession) or do custom work as needed. Portraits (Valentines day, anyone?) Tattoo designs, illustrations, etc. I'm open for any ideas you might have, depending on what you've got to offer. What I want: --L/XL bindings (I've got size 11 Hails) Love my cartels and triads. Other similar options considered.  --Impact shorts/Crash pads-- Looking for some solid tailbone protection, size Large (34 inch waist, I'm 6'2" and 185-190) -- All mountain board in a 156-160ish (253mm+ WW, could sneak a 250mm WW) (oh10 Crew anyone? 156 SScope? ) --Grom gear-- ski/board gear for my kidlet would also be considered, though I'm especially eyeing the 100cm Burton Chopper this year. --Cash (of course) --Other stuff I may not be considering. (make me an offer, especially if it's for something I've already done. I've got a nephew, niece and brother in law I'm getting into the sport, so the right offer might hit the spot, if not for me, for them) PM me if at all interested and we can discuss.
2/10/2009 10:41:49 AM Random question-- Is there some way to add captions to photos on our profile after they've been uploaded, or do you need to remove them and then re-upload with captions?
2/9/2009 10:58:07 AM Does Sierra sell skiboards at all? I'm having no luck with the product search....
2/6/2009 12:13:22 PM My wife's brother just called me, and told me he just got a board from *his* wife's brother. It's supposedly a Dunkin Donuts promo board from about 2 years ago. I searched around online to find any info on it, but there wasn't anything obvious out there. Anyone have the skinny on the manufacturer/rough model of the board?
2/6/2009 11:46:16 AM I was riding up in Okemo last week with my brother, and having a blast. The conditions were great for the northeast, at least for how I ride thus far. It was, as we like to call it, "Hero snow". Perfect packed powder conditions that were nicely groomed, so forgiving and soft, yet great hold when you get up on edge. Anyway, given the confidence boost in the conditions, I started really trying to stretch myself and push a little harder-- hitting more black runs and, more importantly, the park. Some background: I started riding a little more than a year ago, bought a full set up the end of last season, and I'm totally hooked. I've been fine linking turns all season, hitting mostly blues and greens, with the occasional black run recently. In anticipation of riding the park, I've been trying to get more comfortable riding flat and doing flat 1's and 3's on the ground without catching edges. So anyway, feeling ballsy, I decide to try some tail presses, hit some small kickers, and some box tops in the smaller park. No problem on the box, though I need to get more comfortable hitting it at speed and try something other than the 50-50. On the kickers, I ended up too far on my tail on every landing. On the presses, I just felt like I didn't have control, but know that I never really got into a press. Oh, and I can't ollie to save my life. I know my board is not the ideal freestyle board (NS System) and I've lost some weight since I bought it (down from 205 to 185) but I'm not sure how much is the board and how much is me. Are there baby-steps I should be taking to get comfortable with basic freestyle stuff?
2/6/2009 11:08:19 AM My nephew is just getting into riding, and is looking for some bindings to put on a hand me down board for under $100. I've regularly been on Cartels (my current set up) and Forces (my brother's set up) and love both. I've been on Missions when I first was learning, so I'm not sure I knew enough to form an opinion on them (and therefore the Dooms) and know nothing about the Cadets. Anyone have a recommendation? Something else I should tell the kid to look at? He's 12 and rocking size 7's, I believe, so looking in the S/M range.
2/3/2009 7:14:44 AM So I got a nice new board bag for Xmas, fully waterproof, etc. It's nice for keeping snow out of the car, but what I didn't consider is that it's keeping the snow in. I left my board in the bag after my 2nd to last riding session and when I went to take my board out the last time, I noticed a little bit of rust/oxidization on my edges. Is that normal? Anyone have any recommendations to remove it?
1/20/2009 10:18:02 AM I use Firefox 3.0.5 as my primary browser, but whenever I go over to advice and chat, it gets all weird on me. I often can't scroll through the open advice topics (without it jumping all over the place), the advice topics I click on often come up with no text in the actual message window, and if I get so lucky as to actually be able to post, it either logs me out or has me post as a Guest, even though I'm logged in. Should I just suck it up and go over to IE, or is there something that can be done?
1/15/2009 11:19:22 AM So I bought my wife a new pair of snow pants for xmas-- a pair of Roxy 10ks I found on clearance for like $40. I was super stoked about the deal until my wife tried them on after christmas... And they're about 2-3 inches too long. She's only 5'2" and maybe 100lbs, but I picked up Xtra Smalls... So, the question-- is there another brand out there that runs shorter? Or another brand that carries "short" or "petite" sizes? We were going to take them to our regular tailor, since most of her stuff gets tailored, but I'm not sure what they'll be able to do with it, and how that will affect the waterproofing and such. Sucks to lose such a good deal on the pants....
1/15/2009 5:55:07 AM Since the sale was announced last night, I've noticed 2 issues when browsing the online store: 1) Reviews vanished: I can still see the overall rating and # of reviews, but scrolling down only reveals the review input form, not previous reviews from my peers. 2) Random pages failing to load: Everything from shop pages to the home page to the forums. Here's the error I'm getting (or a sample of it): "Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126' Include file not found /forum/includes/header.asp, line 62 The include file '../../includes/logo.asp' was not found." Thought I'd let somebody know what was up. Wasn't sure the place to post it, but hope you guys can clear it up soon. Thanks Sierra for the killer sale and awesome giveaways!!
1/13/2009 7:53:55 AM I just want to confirm, the free T-shirt for community points can be anything from the T-shirt section of the clothing, right? Inclusive of polos, long sleeve button down shirts, etc...Am I correct?
1/12/2009 11:21:22 AM So my three year old wants to ride just like daddy, but I don't have the $250-$300 or so it would cost me to set the kid up on gear he'll outgrow in a year or two. I'm not too optimistic, but figured I'd throw something out there to see if anyone has gear fit for the mini-me that they're willing to part with.
1/12/2009 8:29:21 AM Some folks saw my self portrait over in the "post a photo of yourself" thread and asked me to show some more paintings. Since I didn't think that thread was the place to post these, I figured I'd drop a new thread here. So any other creative folks on here? I know Zoe's got some camera skills with the photochoppery, Spens does the music thing... Who else has something fun to share? Post up your stuff! And here's an alternate version of the self portrait:
