1/6/2010 10:49:32 AM I just wanted to get a message to the leadership teams at Giro and Sierra Snowboard and Ski. This is a short story about how you both saved me from most certain severe brain injury and maybe worse. Last Tuesday 12/29/09  I went to Sierra Snow and Ski in Sacramento, CA to get the gear this 51 year old grandfather needed to be  ready to learn to snowboard over the holiday break.  Don't let the "grandfather" title fool you, I'm reasonably athletic, was a firefighter for 10 years, have participated in a number of sports through out my life, and used to be an OK Skier.  My identical twin brother has been boarding with his kids for about 10 years, and has been giving me a hard time because I wasn't snow boarding :) So I decided to finally take the plunge last week over the holidays and went straight to Sierra Snow and Ski to get outfitted with updated gear.  Several years ago one of my employee's nine year old son was snowboarding, took a serious fall, and suffered permanent, significant brain damage.  So I have been a proponent of helmets even though I had not to this point snowboarded myself.  The staff at Sierra was kind, helpful, and assured me that wearing a helmet was NOT uncool, and well worth the investment.  They steered me toward the Giro G10, which I purchased. Saturday 1-2-09 I was up at Boreal taking my third awesome lesson, loving this new sport.  On my first warmup run of the day, while trying to make a toe-side turn, I caught a back edge and slammed backward downhill in a very hard fall.  I rang my bell good, and dazed me for a few minutes.  After clearing the cob webs I got up with a pretty good headache, and enjoyed my lesson and boarding the rest of the day.  When I came off the mountain to head home, I removed my helmet and that is when I discovered I had actually broken the helmet in the fall earlier that day.  No wonder my head still hurt and my ears were ringing,  I had hit hard enough to break my brand new high tech G10.  See the pics attached.  I ended up at the doctor that night and have a mild concussion.  On my way down the mountain Saturday to go to the doctors, I stopped at Sierra and picked up another G10!  I got my season pass at Boreal Monday.   I wanted to say thank you to both Sierra and Giro for this awesome helmet, that undoubtedly saved me from very serious injury, maybe my life, on Saturday.  I  am a lifelong believer now not just in helmets, but in Giro and the G10! Thank you so much for an incredible product.  You ever need someone to tell their story, let me know!  Especially to young people!  The helmet message, the Giro message, the G10 message, is one worth telling!  And a huge thanks to the awesome staff at Sierra for making it cool to wear one :)
