5/16/2013 10:41:38 AM First of all, let me say I love the goat picture ALOT so I'll put it at the beginning of this thread: And here's a link to the youtube version of the old-school Adam Sandler skit ("he was beating me LOUD eh?") on the same topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IhNuUjK6CI Now the real question: It's gear-shopping season and I "need" a new (2013) all-day everyday AMF board for the resort.  It doesn't need to be the Greatest Of All Time but a good combination of everything that will  look cool when I am lodge pimpin' at the bar (roughly 82% of the time I'm at the resort).  I am hopeful I can obtain permission and pull the trigger soon.  Here are the boards I'm considering as of this morning reading the gear guide on the shitter: Custom FV/restricted 160NS cobra/sl 161Yes pick your line 161Slash ATV 161Jones flagship/twinVenture zephyr ??? I appreciate any insight anyone can drop on me.  I will be lacing large burton binders, will very likely grab a pair of 2013 vitas/diodes.  If I get another big B board I would probably get EST because I like the system but it's not a deal breaker.  Or maybe I'll just run old binders for a while.  Anyway: What did I miss and what does everyone think?  Also holler with any ideas for deals.  Get after it for me.  Thx -b
10/25/2011 3:16:28 PM Are you people going to sit around on the internet all day or get out there and do something ???     #ows   -b
10/13/2011 10:53:16 AM My friends are heading up a Vail vacation for February next year and have a line on renting what looks to be a really cool Hotel -- yes the entire thing -- somewhere on the backside of Vail in a little town-looking place called Minturn. Here's the website: http://eagleriverinnco.com/   It looks like a super easy drive, I think the lodging is going to be cheap and the Hotel looks interesting for a giant party.  But I'm concerned about parking for riding and also the logistics of getting a couple dozen people back and forth from the mountain.  So my question . . . .   Can you ride down to this place from the back bowls?  Is this worth getting into?   -b
9/29/2011 6:32:10 PM It appears my member discount no longer applies to 2012 gear today (or at least Rome and Union, which I've been stalking so I know it applied as of YESTERDAY).  Anyone else having this problem?  Staff: was this done intentionally just before I make my purchase that I've been dreaming about all summer or is this (hopefully) a glitch? -b
7/20/2011 10:55:47 PM One less dude in the backcountry, although I don't see many details about what actually happend, sorry to hear it.  http://fresh.snowboardermag.com/feature/aaron-robinson-1986-2011/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+snowboarder-magazine+%28Snowboarder+Magazine%29&utm_content=Twitter -b EDIT: well maybe a little more from TWS http://snowboarding.transworld.net/1000155699/featuresobf/aaron-robinson-sustains-head-trauma-in-chile/
7/5/2011 1:46:03 PM If you don't already have this you'll need to ask yourself "why not"?     -b   EDIT: fixed?
5/13/2011 9:11:46 AM OK it's Summer so time to talk wakeboards.  Although I've posted it in another thread, I think CABLE PARKS deserve their own.  We got one last year in Northern Nevada and it's opening this weekend again.    http://www.wowwakeplace.com/index.php   Looks like fun so tell me:  who's into it, what do I need to know, and how about you all post some pictures.  Also who wants to give me boat rides this summer.    -b   P.S.  Doug when is TS going to start selling House's stock of wakeboard stuff so I can (a) use my existing giftcards and (b) get an extra 15% off ???  My hyperlite grubb wakeskate is like 10 years old now . . . .   EDIT:     not entirely related but here's an old-school (film) shot of me (only swimsuit picture I keep in my office, if you can believe it), which I think is cool because you can see through the tunnel in cave rock in the backgound.  The scan missed the correct dimensions of the original but you get the picture.
1/20/2011 4:54:45 PM If you didn't think conditions were bad out here . . . .  Sad day in Reno for sure.   http://www.rgj.com/article/20110120/NEWS/110120051   15-year-old Galena student dies after fall at Mount Rose Ski Tahoe By Steve Timko and Jaclyn O’Malley • Reno Gazette-Journal • January 20, 2011 Relatives of a 15-year-old snowboarder — who died Wednesday after crashing into a tree while walking down a slick ski resort mountainside — remembered him Thursday as an amazing and sweet boy. Galena High student Maison T. Ortiz had been snowboarding with a friend at Mount Rose Ski Tahoe after they had finished one of their final exams at school, said his uncle Chris Hicks. They decided to make one of their final runs of the day on the Slide Mountain side of the resort, Hicks said. But the conditions were incredibly icy, which forced the boys to remove their helmets and boards, and walk down the mountain. Ortiz lost his footing on the ice and slipped, crashing into a tree, Hicks said. “They thought it was safer to walk down the mountain,” Hicks said. Mount Rose Spokesman Mike Pierce said the accident occurred about 1:55 p.m. after the boys entered the Gold Run slope. The ski patrol was on scene within a few minutes and he was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center by Care Flight helicopter with serious head injuries, Pierce said. The resort learned Thursday he had died, he said. Hicks said his athletic nephew loved to snowboard, and was working on getting better at the sport. Last year he was a member of the Galena High School football team and loved to hunt with his family. He was known to relatives as a “Gentle Giant” for his large frame and sweet nature. “Maison was a wonderful boy, who was amazing and sweet,” Hicks said. “He was the sweetest kid you could ever imagine and always had a smile on his face. Maison never complained and was always happy. He accepted life with a smile.” Ortiz leaves behind his parents, Carrie and Tom, and two younger siblings. Funeral arrangements had not yet been made. The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office is trying to determine a cause of death and Thursday had no comment. “He was such a good kid, and this is such a tragedy,” Hicks said. Galena High School Principal Tom Brown described the mood at the 1,350-student school as somber on Friday. He said many students, who communicate through Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and other Internet sites, already knew by the time they got to class on Thursday. “To me it felt like they were already connected with each other,” Brown said. “That’s what you try to do is get them connected to each other and remember their friend in a positive way.” While the high school does not have specially trained grief counselors, they do have counselors trained to deal with high school students. Many teachers were also touched by the death of the Galena High sophomore, Brown said. He described Ortiz as a “nice young man. He carried himself well. Respectful.”
1/19/2011 11:42:53 AM Conditions are getting dire in the Tahoe basin, as I can attest from the snow pits I dug last weekend in my avy class.  I've stared at the NOAA page for a long time but am no forecaster, so this poll is what I will turn to in order to plan the rest of my winter.  Have at it   -b
12/5/2010 9:13:43 AM People Under the Stairs at Whiskey Dick's in SLT tonight, appparently at 9 p.m.  Anyone going to be there to buy me drinks? -b
6/6/2010 9:06:26 AM I know this is a snowboard site and not necessarily for skiiers, but like I said above, too FN bad about Arne Backstrom.  Not only did he take what sounds like a 1300' free fall to face because he couldn't make a turn, but they had to wait a few days to haul his body out of the area . . . .   http://www.fanhouse.com/news/main/father-confirms-death-of-freeskier/1100385   Got to love his old man's statement that he was "naturally sad" about the accident, but added his son "had 29 pretty awesome years and a very quick ending."   RIP kid
6/4/2010 9:32:49 AM When is SS going to offer the Makboard?
5/27/2010 7:26:11 AM OK been concocting a new thread idea for a few days and here it is -- how many of you kids on this site get to enjoy snowboarding with your dogs?  If so post some pics -- I don't have any snow-related on this computer but will post some of my dogs Ellie Mae and Pacino when I get to the office.    Suffice it to say that crashing down a backcountry line with your dogs behind you is a good time.  There are also many quality times to be had in the Slide Side parking lot party at Mt. Rose (sorry, we're Reno locals) which turns into a dog fest pretty much every day during the season.
5/22/2010 8:46:12 AM snow last night in REno -- mebbe Squaw can hang on a couple more weekends?
