8/31/2010 7:08:54 PM Don't forget about 2 for Tuesdays at Holly, Brighton, and Pine Knob. It's nice to get out early and get in a few park laps before the kiddos get out of school and sit in front of every single feature.
8/31/2010 9:37:05 AM With Boyne, your one ticket will get you access to both resorts on the same day. They're about a half hour apart, so if you're coming from 75 and want to go to Mountain in the AM, break for lunch and head to Highlands for a change of scenery, you can do that. Boyne also has a bunch of promo days like 6 for 1 ticket days and reduced rates from a local radio station on certain days. Check with the hotel you're staying at and you can probably get $5 off your lift ticket. Nubs is literally across the street from Highlands. They have a great park crew and it's always in top shape. I'd imagine unless there's a comp or special event you'll find Nubs much less crowded than either Boyne. If I recall correctly, both Boyne resorts have boarder cross tracks if you're into that. Keep your eyes on their websites as well as http://www.michiweb.com/ski/ and http://www.goskimichigan.com/ for current promos, competition listings, Demo Days, etc. Look into a WhiteGold card if you want to go a bunch. They're $189 at the beginning of the season and you get one lift ticket for 28 resorts in Michigan. Last year they dropped the price in late Dec/early Jan to $139 if I remember right. A good handful are in the UP, but even if you just go to both Boynes, Nubs, Shanty, and Treetops, you're ahead of the game. They're also good at the garbage dumps in SE lower MI... Brighton, Holly, Alpine, and Pine Knob.
7/24/2010 10:52:55 AM Awww! Glad they're getting along! The kitten is absolutely adorable. I have a silver mackerel tabby too... she's the coolest cat I've ever had.
7/23/2010 3:17:54 PM This is more common than I care to admit. I've also seen a lot of full body/one piece Carhartt suits.
7/15/2010 9:12:06 PM Futurama King of the Hill Weeds Burn Notice Hung... Thomas Jane is so hot. Pawn Stars & American Pickers Scrubs NCIS White Collar Loved Prison Break while it was on. Cold Case My Name is Earl Gangland, Locked Up, Locked Up Abroad, and all of those "Hooked: Illegal Drugs" propaganda shows. Pretty much everything on History, Science, and Discovery. And I think I've seen just about every episode of the entire Law & Order franchise. My dog loves to watch tv too. Believe it or not... she'll sit there and watch a whole show or movie, especially if there's people playing in water, sports, or other animals.
7/11/2010 8:12:33 PM I'm kinda surprised no one mentioned trail/snack mixes. No cooking required. Whatever nuts and seeds you like, dried fruits (raisins, dried cranberries, banana chips, dried pineapple, apple chips, etc.), m&ms, pretzels, cereal (Life, Chex, Cheerios, Capt. Crunch, whatever you like), and granola. Mix them all up in a big air-tight container and you're set. Perfect snack.  Oh, bring a crock pot. Before you head out in the morning or when you stop for lunch you can prep dinner and get it cooking so it's all done when you get back in and don't feel like cooking anything. Throw in some meat, some carrots and potatoes, and some canned gravy or "cream of..." soup and let it cook itself for the day. Here's some more ideas: http://allrecipes.com/Recipes/Main-Dish/Slow-Cooker/Top.aspx
7/11/2010 10:00:31 AM Possibly interested in some outerwear. L/XL jacket, M pants? Already have a 148 Superstar. I do enjoy it!
7/5/2010 10:31:48 PM Sorry to thread-jack... but I'm beginning to think I'm one of the few people that are genuinely weirded out by the idea of eating any sort of shellfish. No crab, lobster, crawfish, prawns, shrimp or any form of molluscs for me. I love all different kinds of fish and land-meats, but I can't get past this psychological aversion to eating shellfish.
7/2/2010 8:17:19 AM Ehhhhh... I call BS on the no side-effects claim. Big pharma has been producing BC pills for women since the 1960s and they still haven't figured out how to make them 100% safe or effective. I understand that the male reproductive system is a lot less complicated but geeez... a protein that "deactivates" the sperm? That freaks me out and I don't even produce sperm. And as a woman, I don't know if I want "deactivated" sperm hanging out in my uterus. I'll keep taking my lovely Desogen, which has served me well for the past 5 years. Leave my man's troops alone... I'll need them someday.
6/30/2010 3:36:42 PM My buddy just got a Buick Century and named her Dottie. Before that he had Dorothy the Durango. I think he has an old lady name fetish. My first car was a 92 Bonneville... Bonnie. Too obvious. My Jeep Cherokee was Clyde. Cavalier z24 was unnamed. Right now I have a Bravada that goes by the name of 'money-pit.'
6/27/2010 12:47:10 PM I'm gonna vote no. However, it depends on if you buy into the hype or not. Do you need two or three new boards every year? Do you need new boots and bindings? Multiple sets of outerwear, goggles, etc? Some people think they do. Some people know they don't. Lift tickets and passes get expensive. However, you can find deals if you look hard enough. For the past few years I've purchased a pass that gets me 1 ticket at 28 resorts for $190. Not all 28 resorts are worth the gas to get to, but even if I only go the 5 closest to me, I get my money's worth. What I find ridiculous is that the garbage dumps in southern Michigan charge about $500 for a season pass. In Colorado, an Epic pass is $599 and is good for unlimited access at 6 ACTUAL mountains. Anyway, it's only elitist if you buy into the hype that you need loads of brand new gear and multiple season passes every year. There are definitely ways to snowboard on the cheap.
6/27/2010 12:21:53 PM Yeah, it's been absolutely ridiculous. Bad calls (and non-calls) are the reasons why refs get police escorts out of the stadiums.
6/27/2010 12:13:07 PM Sweet vid! Boardercross is nuts. It takes some balls to go that fast while being so close to other riders on the course. I tried it once with my boyfriend and his cousin, his cousin being a little less skilled... and it didn't end well. :lol There are quite a few places in Michigan to try it out. I know for sure that Alpine Valley, both Boynes, Mt. Brighton, Otsego, and Nubs Nob all have boardercross courses... and probably some others. I doubt they're all as long or as intense as the one in the vid though. There are a few high schools with teams and it's really getting popular around here. I think Brighton High School had about 40 kids go out for the team last winter... and apparently the girls team just kills it.
6/27/2010 11:11:04 AM OUCH. The USWNT has actually won 2 World Cups, 3 Olympic Gold medals (out of the last 4 Olympic games), and 6 out of 7 CONCACAF Gold Cups. They are easily in the top 3 in the world on a consistent basis.  I grew up playing with many of the women currently on the team and in the player pool and they're some of the toughest, most driven people I've ever met. It's ok that you don't care about women's soccer, but some people do. Test out instant replay in the U-17 and U-20 men's tournaments. Those are the players that will be coming to the big show in the next 4-8 years... let FIFA figure it out with them.
6/25/2010 12:01:38 PM Went out in Detroit for the US World Cup game on Wednesday. My boyfriend and I picked up a $140 bar tab (lots of beers and at least 5 rounds of shots) for us and the couple we were with... then we ended up at Greektown. Boyfriend lost $300 on the craps table. Paid $11 for a pack of smokes and $3.75 for a bottle of Bud Light... ugh. No free drinks in Detroit. My buddy's girlfriend won over $300 on the craps table. We all then went out to dinner with my parents and she bought a single round of shots... and then tried to make out with my boyfriend right in front of me. I hate casinos. And girls.
