11/21/2012 9:17:40 PM GENEVA (AP) — The main global warming pollutant reached a record high level in the air in 2011, the U.N. weather agency said Tuesday.Concentrations of heat-trapping carbon dioxide in the atmosphere averaged 390 parts per million during the year. That is up 40 percent from before the Industrial Age, when levels were about 280 parts per million, the World Meteorological Organization said.Carbon dioxide, the chief greenhouse gas, stays in the atmosphere for 100 years. Some of it is natural, coming mainly from decomposing dead plants and animals, but scientists say the bulk of it is from the burning of fossil fuels. There have been 350 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere since 1750 and it "will remain there for centuries, causing our planet to warm further and impacting on all aspects of life on earth," said WMO Secretary-General Michel Jarraud. "Future emissions will only compound the situation."Between 1990 and 2011, carbon dioxide and other gas emissions caused a 30 percent increase in the warming effect on the climate, the agency reported. After carbon dioxide, methane has the biggest effect on climate. Atmospheric concentrations of methane also reached a new high of 1,813 parts per billion in 2011, up 159 percent from pre-industrial levels of about 700 parts per billion. About 40 percent comes from natural sources such as termites and wetlands, but the rest is due to cattle breeding, rice agriculture, fossil fuel burning, landfills and incineration, the agency said.
11/21/2012 11:50:42 AM It just dawned on me I still have the same socks I had when I first started snowboarding...8 years ago!  They don't look that bad, but are actually kinda matted down in the heel and toe areas. I bought some new socks years after, but kept wearing that first pair, too(?).  This poll is really just a reminder that your socks might need replacing.
11/28/2011 10:08:35 AM I just tried to redeem a gift card that's been in my account since last spring, but checkout says "Could not find Gift Card".  Is there an expiration on gift cards?...If so, why is it still listed under the "Gift Cards" tab on my member account page.
11/19/2011 2:44:14 PM I'm giving away my L.L.Bean "Tuckerman's" snow jacket...just pay shipping.  PM me for details. This jacket has a reinforced "Tek2" nylon shell with taped seams and a ton of useful features including:      * Zip-in, 150 gram Thinsulate quilted liner w/ moisture wicking micro-fleece      * Removable hood      * Pockets for phone, MP3 player, goggles and more      * Lift-pass loop, etc, etc   It's used, so it has the standard slightly worn seams where the arms rub against the pockets and the light stains that inevitably occur on any lighter colored snowboard outerwear...other than that, it's still got several seasons left in it. This is an extra insulated jacket probably better suited to the east coast or midwest. Comfort range is listed as 30°F to -20°F.   It's a men's size large and is true-to-fit standard sizing.  To be exact, it fits a chest measuring 42-44 inches.  From a smoke-free home.
4/4/2011 7:20:03 AM my dell just died and I don't want to buy another computer with proprietary parts. I'm looking at some of the other custom computer companies like falcon, puget, cyberpower, etc.  Anybody here have experience with any of them?...good or bad?
3/30/2011 7:45:45 AM so I'll be turning 3000 in 3.33 days and am thinking about getting some Cartel's as my "free" bindings (unless anyone has a better suggestion...within Trusnow's stock) Trusnow has white in large (boot size 10+) and red/acid test in medium (boots 8-11).  I wear salomon boots in size 10 (but their 10 is everyone else's 10.5), so I'm wondering which size cartels would be best for me?
1/10/2011 12:17:05 PM Selling my padded shorts from last season because I just got some new ones that fit my toothpick legs better.  The ones I'm selling are in practically brand new condition and I've priced them for about half the retail (you won't find anything on this site that cheap).  Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170589322951&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Normal 0
12/31/2010 9:36:21 AM so, looks like my trip to Tahoe is becoming a reality.  I'm headed for Squaw on the 4th & 5th of Jan. Doesn't look like it's gonna dump between now and then. Problem is we're down to one car: a bleeping camry and weight is now an issue.  If I can only take one of my boards, which one should I take: the 155 fun shtick or the 163 serious bidness? If I thought there's gonna be any powder stashes left, I'm leaning toward the 163...if all tracked, the 155 would be a lot more fun.  I guess I should also take into account squaw can be kind of a gnarly mtn which bids well for the 163...but, if I'm gonna be on groomers all day, I'm gonna wanna spin and stuff...a lot...155...hmm
12/29/2010 10:57:24 AM "The body of a missing skier, lost overnight at the China Peak ski area east of Fresno, was found Tuesday afternoon, according to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.Early Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's Office had identified the missing man as Eli Shelby, 29, of Fresno. Lt. Bob Miller said Shelby was last seen by a friend about 3:30 p.m. and failed to return to his car in the ski area parking lot Monday evening.About 20 deputies and volunteers were involved in the search, Miller said.Sheriff's spokesman Chris Curtice said the body was found about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Bad weather and difficult terrain hampered the search, he said. China Peak owner Tim Cohee said Shelby's body was found off the Westridge ski run in deep powdery snow in a tree well, where snow builds up around a tree trunk." I know someone already posted about this, but I felt it deserved it's own thread.
12/13/2010 2:56:20 PM I decided to scrape the storage layer off my pow board today and realized how heavy it is with the bindings on.  So I scraped and weighed it: My solo weight minus the weight of me holding the board w/bindings (on a doctors quality scale) weighs 12 pounds. Realizing that many of you may have multiple setups - what does your heaviest setup weigh?
12/6/2010 11:31:03 AM due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm selling my 686 Smarty 2.5 Ply Complete Jacket.  It's 2010 model and a "medium"...which, to all you familiar with 686, means a large.  Brand new with tags! I have it listed on ebay at this link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170576223382&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT This size and color are extremely rare, so if you want it, act quick. This jacket is siiiick!
11/17/2010 8:15:07 AM Latest Report on Global Warming: Monday, Nov. 15, 2010 The Associated Press DAVIS, Calif. -- Scientists at the University of California, Davis say rising global temperatures are likely to alter Lake Tahoe and its surrounding region in the decades ahead.Their report, released Monday, predicts a steady shift from winter snowfall to rain and an earlier snowmelt, leading to flooding by mid-century in the Upper Truckee River, which feeds the lake.Prolonged droughts could take hold by the end of the century. That could drop the lake below its rim and cut off flows to the Truckee River, which supplies Reno, Nev.Computer models suggest the average snowpack in the Tahoe basin will decline by 40 percent to 60 percent by 2100. Some winters could pass with only rain and no snowfall.Tahoe's clarity also could be diminished by the emergence of algae.
2/3/2010 9:06:54 AM back in nov, I recieved a coupon code for "Any Goggles" free.  When I tried to redeem the code, I was told that the goggles I chose weren't the free goggles and I had to choose from sale goggles (there were none at the time). My code disappeared and I still haven't gotten a new code. Goggles went on sale again and have no coupon code to get them.  Will you please give e back my unredeemed coupon code?
1/20/2010 10:42:41 AM Just put some good Sessions snowboard pants on ebay for cheap http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170435137235 if you're still riding in crappy, nylon rain pants or scotchguard jeans, now's your chance to get the real deal for a lower price.
1/3/2010 1:46:25 PM giving away these Salomon Brigade boots...you just pay shipping (domestic/USA only).   I used them about 20 days - they have the standard wear from resting the board's edge on the boot during lifts, but they're still stiff as new and the tread is just as gnarly as ever. I even kept them laced up when I wasn't using them, so they retained their shape and didn't get all sloppy. Comes with all the original documents/tags and I stuck some j-bars on the liners.  They're size 10.5 and fit my size 11 foot. These have a wider profile, especially in the toe box. To calculate shipping: I'm in zip code 93245, the package weighs 6 pounds and measures 19 x 14 x 6 inches.   I think I can send it USPS "parcel post", which, even to the east coast, should be under $14.  You can paypal it to me...or send a check...whatever.  PM me for details.
