1/27/2013 10:33:24 PM Went to Heavenly 3x, Kirkwood and Squaw. Passed on Northstar.
Nice. Which spot didya like best & why? I'm gonna guess ya dug Heavenly the most only cuz you spent the most time there. Not that it matters much, but my rankings of the 3 are The Wood, Squawllywood, then Heavenly.
1/20/2013 8:27:19 AM
yes, they have these "euro" stands throughout the village..selling waffles, crepe, and hotdogs and stuff.
I've ridden thrice so far this season, and each spot (Squaw, Homewood & Sierra) had these Euro stands. Holy ballz! It smells deliciously tempting as the aroma of freshly-made waffles wafts thru the air. The hut is so strategically placed in the base area as to wrangle in the highest potential number of victims... err... I mean... customers () with their bait. Not sure how I was able to resist, esp. that 1st encounter @Squaw.
1/20/2013 8:24:37 AM So how did your trip go? What did you think of each resort?
1/18/2013 9:49:30 PM Hmmm.... I could swear I paid w/ a CC once before. I know Laurent prefers cash or debit. They also accept check w/ proper ID. Also, the "AND MORE..." part of their ad is where your wallet will feel it the most if you're not disciplined. They may have other non-snowboard related items available--i.e. Nixon watches, clothing/apparel from RVCA, etc. Since my plans to roll down to SD this wknd fell thru, I'll be swinging by the showroom around lunchtime. Hope they'll still have some cold beer left.
1/13/2013 9:36:17 PM Nice! Sounds like y'all are staying somewhere on the North Shore of the lake. For your time @ Squaw, the aforementioned Shell gas 2-for-1 voucher (http://www.skifreedeals.com/ski-resorts-california.html) can also be used for beginner packages in case your group includes those who'll just be starting out. Even if they've gone once or twice before, but it's been a while since that last trip or they didn't pick it up very well, these beginner packages could save y'all loads of money & stress. They'll get a 2-hour group lesson to ease their anxiety or frustration (as well as yours & other veterans who won't have to "babysit" them as they get their "snow legs") along with a beginner lift ticket & rental equipment. HUGE savings! Super convenient, too. Just gotta do Squaw Tuesday thru Thursday. And even though Homewood is a MUCH smaller resort on the northwest side of the lake, there the Shell offer is valid ALL WEEK barring Saturday. And it has a killer view of the lake! When coming down the Face run, you'll feel like you'll be plunging into the water by the time you reach the bottom. Also mentioned by others, there aren't too many discounts for Vail Resorts' Tahoe properties like Northstar. I personally don't ride there as often as I have in the past. While N* has built up their amenities & their village area quite nicely, their terrain (esp. in total acreage) doesn't justify their exorbitant ticket price. Also, the place can get insanely crowded, so try to avoid going there on the weekend. The day I went last year, it was worth it to fork out the extra 20 bucks for the FAST pass ("priority lane access" akin to the HOV lane during rush hour). Such a shame that the FAST pass rate is now a whopping $50! One of the great things about N* is they have awesome parks! But I'm all about getting the most bang for my buck, so places that are less expensive and/or that have better overall terrain earn my business. So unless y'all have already purchased tix to N*, give Alpine Meadows a shot. It's Squaw's sister resort, and it's also a Shell 2-for-1 Tues, Wed, Thur resort.
4/30/2012 3:12:59 PM His leaving is bittersweet. Though this place won't be same w/o him, I'm super stoked that he's able to commit more time to Thrive.   And yes, the graphics are SICK! I saw 'The Beat' in-person back in Feb when a few of us met up w/ Doug & Phil after shredding.   Farewell & congrats to you, Doug!
2/24/2012 12:10:52 PM   Since getkong mentioned SnowPals a couple months back, I thought I'd bump this since they're having a RideShare mixer 2mrw afternoon: http://www.snowpals.org/events/#sf   The mixers are a good way to get a feel of potential rideshares. Plus, free food & bev as well as chance to win some prizes! I've been a member of SnowPals since near its inception (over 10 yrs ago). Like getkong, I've had no major issues myself -- as driver or passenger.
2/24/2012 11:57:11 AM You'll find the same above recommendations here: http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=51177   And like already mentioned, who you rent from depends upon where you'll be staying... North or South. Enjoy your time out here!
2/23/2012 11:59:19 AM Though it's good that you're not using "full-strength" dryer sheets, be mindful that they're one of the "Things to Avoid" in terms of laundering technical fabrics. Most info I've come across states that fabric softeners, including dryer sheets, can lessen waterproofness & breathability of the fabrics, laminates, linings, etc. of our techy snowsports clothing.   Interesting that REI was mentioned as their site has a real good summary on care of tech fabrics... http://www.rei.com/expertadvice/articles/fabric+care.html   Never use fabric softener (including dryer sheets) with technical fabrics. Oils, waxes and fragrances in fabric softener cling to fibers and diminish their water repellency, breathability and wicking. This tip often surprises people. But performance fabrics and fabric softener do not mix.

2/23/2012 9:30:22 AM Seriously, keep us updated on this.  I want to hear how everything is going.  We are all worried about you.
You could say, we are "worried sick" about you..... :-|
http://instantrimshot.com/
2/22/2012 6:40:02 PM  Yeah, I got a chuckle outta that, too. The classic ol' wives tale that I battle w/ my Mom about. It usually starts because of scenario like this...   Mom (to Bro or Sis): You be sure to bundle up *insert my nephew or niece's name* so s/he doesn't catch cold. Me (looking at her incredulously): Uh... you know people get sick due to germs, viruses, etc., right?
2/22/2012 4:07:46 PM Bump! I thought Punxsutawney Phil promised us 6 more weeks of actual winter. It's been such a disheartening () season. When I rode w/ giftedhands & kimchi last week, the "winter" of '11-'12 was officially dubbed The Season of Eternal Spring.
2/22/2012 9:11:08 AM All I can say is...   I'll edit this to expand my thoughts & feelings on this when I get thru the initial grief.
2/22/2012 9:01:14 AM There was another thread like this in recent weeks, and the thread below was linked as some help:   http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=49886   I'll link the one from a couple weeks back when I find it. G'luck!   **EDIT** Here's that recent thread for ya!  http://www.trusnow.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=51447
