10/1/2012 3:11:14 PM one last plug for the network pass. vail has decided the cancel the program, sadly, so today's your last chance to grab this pass. currently $409. you get unlimited riding at the wood next year. no black out days! www.kirkwood.com/network group login = epa password = kirkwood questions: kirkwoodnetworkpass@gmail.com more info: kirkwoodnetworkpass.blogspot.com
5/10/2012 3:35:55 PM one more plug for the weekend warriors/kirkwood fans out there. They plan on keeping the $329 pricing through this Sunday May 13th. for those who ride weekends and holidays, this is the best deal out there for next year in tahoe. as always, send your questions here: kirkwoodnetworkpass@gmail.com
4/13/2012 1:53:50 PM Hey folks, I wanted to pass on the great news that kirkwood is keeping their network pass program for next year. They just announced today their kirkwood-only pass pricing and it includes the network pass. So for those kirkwood die hards, you can get an unlimited, no restrictions season pass at your favorite resort for much less than the unlimited epic pass. This pass is only good at kirkwood; not heavenly or northstar, so if you want a multi-resort pass, i'd choose one of vail's other options. The upside to the kirkwood only pass is that there are no holiday restrictions so you'll never miss a powder day! Even this year, with our paltry snow conditions in the sierra, prez day weekend had great conditions I wouldn't have wanted to miss. Anyway the deets are limited at this point but the pricing is set and the website is live. $329 = unlimited adult pass at kirkwood. no holiday restrictions. (basically a $50 savings using the following login) www.kirkwood.com/network login = epa password = kirkwood I will update this thread as well as this website when I know more in terms of deadlines, etc.   feel free to post questions in the meantime... http://kirkwoodnetworkpass.blogspot.com/
2/22/2012 2:24:02 PM from their press release it looks like they intend to still offer a kirkwood only pass next season... i REALLY hope so. N* and heavenly don't interest me too much and the low price and out of the way vibe at the 'wood is a big draw for me and a lot of people. can't say i'm surprised though. I know they've been struggling now since the real estate tumble. always trying to look on the bright side though, i'm hoping we get some reliable power at kirkwood.
1/19/2012 11:33:17 AM +1 on the kirkwood inn... probably the best food there. the only thing is you have to drive there from the resort... just across the highway though.
1/18/2012 2:20:57 PM kirkwood is in a valley between two mountain passes on hwy 88. Carson pass (on the eastern side) and carson spur (on the western side). during a big storm they will close one or both passes. they typically open the eastern side first b/c a lot of their employees live in SLT. So if you're coming from the west on 88, you have to go around via the 50->89->88. If it's a big storm though, often they close both passes. keep an eye on the weather and caltrans website and try and time your approach before they close is my advice. on a pow day... the tree runs off of 10 are great, thunder saddle area if it's open is awesome, the palisades if everything else is tracked out and/or if you're willing to do some hiking/traversing... study the map, there's a lot to choose from. i can't freaking wait till we get powder...
12/12/2011 5:12:36 PM last day for this is tomorrow Dec 13th... prices are now $469. hopefully the snow gods will reward us this week... looking forward to heading up there this weekend.
12/5/2011 12:20:39 PM I have an earlier version of this brace that I ride with. I've had ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair and articular cartilage damage (repaired via microfracture surgery) - lots of surgery. In terms of riding with it, it is bulky compared to a simple neoprene brace but gives me a feeling of greater security. I think it primarily protects your ligaments from re-tearing, but I have injured my meniscus while using the brace.... I still wear it b/c I think it's better than not wearing a brace and I haven't retorn my ACL with it on. My orthopedic surgeon prescribed it at my request but he was lukewarm about it's effectiveness... but also felt it was better than nothing. You get used to having it on and I don't notice it much except when suiting up (getting my underlayers on over it) etc.
10/5/2011 12:57:56 PM Kirkwood's reporting 6-10 inches this AM! here's hoping for a repeat of la niƱa. discounted network passes are now $399 through November 1st. get yours before they raise the prices... http://kirkwoodnetworkpass.blogspot.com/
8/24/2011 11:49:38 AM i was wondering the same thing about the karakoram bindings... for the price i was sure hoping they at least include the interface. and i am curious to know what makes them so much better than the spark r + d sets? at least jones' split boards are priced more competitively.
8/24/2011 10:56:15 AM ditto on that. though sometimes i like to hit the *baby* park off chair 7 on my way down from sentinel or the palisades... and their border cross course can be kind of fun the way down from chair 6.
8/22/2011 3:26:25 PM I think tahoe has something for everyone. If you're not into powder, uncrowded slopes and a chill vibe, then kirkwood may not be your thing. certainly if you're exclusively a park rat, there are probably better options for you in the tahoe basin. have to say though it's hard to beat kirkwood's pricing on their season passes. with 2300 skiable acres and 2000' in vertical, it's hard to find a comparable sized place for the price. btw pass prices go up after 9/7. they're still $329 for an unlimited season pass... more info here: http://kirkwoodnetworkpass.blogspot.com/
8/8/2011 3:20:35 PM DIY.... def the least expensive option and super easy. just need an iron and some wax.... esp since you should do it every few days on the hill, it can get pricey and inconvenient to have it done at a shop... repairs though are a different story.
8/8/2011 1:44:12 PM not too bad about 3.5 hrs on a good weather day from sf. on a pow day, you will need chains or snow tires and 4wd. sometimes they close 88. They usually open the east side first, so you have to go through slt via 89 to get to 88west.
8/2/2011 12:31:18 PM + 1 for the 'wood. good snow, less crowds... doesn't get tracked out as easily (esp. if you are willing to hike a few minutes). good to have a 4wd vehicle with snow tires, b/c the road can be treacherous and often closes with big dumps. if you're still looking for a season pass, you can save $50 here: www.kirkwood.com/network login = epa password = kirkwood more info: http://kirkwoodnetworkpass.blogspot.com/
