1/13/2010 12:20:02 PM Alright, so including this past week at Steamboat, I've probably spent 20ish days riding.  The first 6 were spent at the beginner stage, the next 7 were spent with me teaching myself to carve down a mountain, then 3 days on the east coast riding WV and just goofing on, and then the most recent 5 days spent in CO learning to get comfortable with speed and a basic intro to riding switch.   My question is...what to focus on next?   I envision the learning process to be, basics, basic carving, getting comfortable with speed, learning switch, getting comfortable with switch and speed runs, then tricks.   My friend and I were learning to ollie while we were in Steamboat and did some jumps and went down the terrain park but nothing crazy.  So...I ask the good people of sierra...what should I focus on next (I'm leaning towards switch)?
12/17/2009 8:21:10 AM 1. 2007 Palmer P-Line Snowboard 154cm. Used for 1 season and ridden 10-12 times on slopes ranging from West Virginia to the German Alps. Gotten bigger and need to upgrade. Board has been waxed every couple of trips and repaired all wounds. Aesthetic scratches on top. 2. Large Ride LX Bindings. Fit my size 10 boots. 3. Burton Board Sack. Camouflage. Fits boards to 156cm. Rip on one end that needs to be sown up. Otherwise in great condition.  ***$175 for package OBO***
12/16/2009 4:43:15 PM I bought my first board when I was about 160#.  Since then I've worked out more, put on more muscle and mass and upped my weight to about 180#.  I'm 5'11.  My first board was a Palmer P-Line 154.  It was probably too small to begin with but it served me well.  Rode the alps and WV with it.  But looking at the specs on palmer's site, it was meant for a rider about 30# less than what I weigh. This leads me to a problem.  I know I need to upgrade but have no idea what to upgrade too. I wear size 10 thirtytwo boots and my binding is a large ride lx.  They fit great and still have plenty of use. I figure if I sell my board I can get maybe $100 for it and this would roll over into my new board. My spending limit is probably $350 which isn't a lot but I figure with deals on previous year models this should be plenty.  I don't need the best or the greatest, but I'm looking for something more on the intermediate side.  Any recommendations?  The Sierra Crew is on sale for $250...is that my best bet?  I'm guessing a 158-160 would be best for me?
12/7/2009 12:06:00 PM After a long 08-09 winter stuck on the WVA slopes, I ponied up the cash for a flight out to Steamboat.  My uncle has a place there so lodging is free.  A friend and I will be there for a week, 1/3 to 1/10.  Couple of questions... 1. What kind of lines for the lifts can I expect and how crowded will the slopes be?(M-F & Saturday)2. What are some must-do runs on the mountain (Intermediate skill level)3. Longest run (in terms of change in elevation & time?)4. Probably a given, but what is the snowfall usually like around that time? Thanks for the help.  I'm stoked to finally get off the east coast.  Learned to ride in Germany because my dad is military and the slopes in "Wild & Wonderful" WV just don't compare.
1/24/2009 8:17:02 AM Finally got home from Germany last weekend but been so busy with first week of school that I haven't been on SS in a while.  Flying home from Germany I was flying Delta and had a flight into Atlanta then a connector to Jacksonville, NC.  My board, boots, and running shoes were all stored in a burton board bag so I felt safe with entrusting it to the airlines.Get to Atlanta and pick up my bag, go thru customs and then recheck all my gear.  Get to my connecting flight.  Get on board and sit down in my seat which just so happens to be about a foot forward of where they load the luggage.  So this way I got to see all my bags get loaded and felt good.  As the engines start up tho I look out the window and what to my suprise do I see sitting out by the edge of the wing...that's right, my board bag.  Call the steward and ask him what the heck is gonna happen to it.  He doesn't know...Plane backs up and taxis away from the terminal as I watch my board bag slowly vanish into the distance.  Land and go to the desk.  Tell them that I'm leaving for school the next day and won't be able to pick it up.  Delta says they'll fly it to Roanoke and deliver it.  Two days later the bag is back in my possession but with a nice rip at the bottom.Talk about a long flight, but I had an absolute blast riding and learned a shload.  Hitting up snowshoe tomorrow and if I can find a helmet maybe the park.  I learn through practicing so I better hit it sooner rather than later.
1/13/2009 8:34:56 AM Looking for an old used helmet for the last couple of days of the season.  I will buy a new one for next season, but I'm a college student quickly running out of funds. My head is a 23 1/4 which is:Protec - L/XLRed - M/LI'd be willing to pay shipping.  Thanks
1/13/2009 4:25:26 AM I was just lucky enough to get Oakley A-Frames off of Tramdock for 42 and am now looking for a helmet to compliment them.  I was looking at a Red Hi-Fi or Giro Bad Lt.  Does anyone have any suggestions?
1/6/2009 10:40:04 AM Hitting the German Alps tomorrow and friday, and the Zugspitze on Thursday.  Got my friend here who brought his trick skis.  Might hit the park on Thursday depending on how confident I am, since I only learned how to link my turns last wednesday.  So it'll be 8 days worth of riding out of 12.
1/4/2009 9:56:07 AM I've been borrowing pants for the last week and am looking to get a set for myself.  I found a pair on backcountry.  http://www.backcountry.com/store/SSN0212/Sessions-Parachute-Vortex-Pant-Mens.html  Does anyone have anything positive/negative to say about session?  If negative, can you possibly point me in the right direction?  I'm checking tramdock and whiskeymilitia religiously in hopes of finding cheap goggles/helmet/pants.
1/4/2009 1:30:31 AM I just finished a week of riding which brings my total number of days on a board to 10 over a 1 year period, and 5 on my new board.  At the start of the week I did a bunch of runs, but mainly just doing heel edge the entire way down.  Tuesday I wiped out hard and ended up calling it a day.  Wed however I got on a empty blue run (easy in europe) and just rode for 3 hours teaching myself how to turn from heel to toe and back.  Thurs and Fri consisted of me barreling down the mountain leaving s-patterns in teh snow. The biggest thing that helped me make the transition was something I read online explaining that it's best to visualize the bottom of the board being a half circle, and when switching edges you should visualize rolling the board along that circle in order to keep a smooth transition going.  What piece of advice helped you out the most when you were starting...or that you'd offer to a new rider?  Oh, and were you self taught or had lessons?
1/3/2009 1:07:20 AM What's the best type of wax to use for riding in the WV mountains, most particularly at snowshoe?
1/2/2009 12:13:40 PM I've snowboarded twice now, both five day stints.  My first stint was last year now, and my second stint just ended.  I've only snowboarded on the German Alps in Garmisch and on the Zugspitz and the difficulty ratings are blue, red, and black.  Does anyone know how these relate to US slopes?
