"Dakine Heli Pro DLX 20L" 9/4/2009
Helpful Review?   (4) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Dakine Heli Pro DLX 20L
  • Pros:  Features everywhere, Very comfortable, perfect size, Insulated hydration channel
  • Cons:  Almost needs a manual!, Very long straps (easily cut if needed), I don't need the bottle holder

Experience:   Apparently the upgrade to the Heli Pro, which I haven't used but had been recommended. I liked the look of the camera pouch on the waist band on this one. It is pretty hard to spot the difference between this and the Pro II apart from its extra space in the shovel pocket. It took me a few times playing with this bag to find all the features. The lower straps for the vertical board carrying tuck away nicely into the bag, the top ones clip neatly into pairs. Horizontal board carrying works by slotting the board between the back padding and the bag. A coated steel cable loop that pulls out of the bottom of the bag for ski carrying. Axe loop on the side. My single favorite feature is the insulated hydration pocket. The actual bladder sits behind the foam padding for your back, keeping it warm. The hydration hose runs internally through the shoulder strap of the bag, keeping it from freezing in the cold. You just zip it out when you need it or if it isn't cold. The goggle pocket is nice, as is the camera pouch on the waist (both lined). It sits really comfortably on your hip and fits a small digital camera. It has a small internal clip, presumably to attach the camera wristband to. This bag is hard to fault. The straps that come on the bag are quite long. You may need to cut them and re-sew them if you like. This isn't even a negative, it just means it'll fit more people. The other thing that isn't as useful as the rest of the features is the zip out bottle carrying pocket. Might be good if you need to carry an emergency beer or something but with such a good hydration system I can't see the need. I haven't been able to test how waterproof the bag is, but it seems really well made. The zips are all really high quality with big plastic tabs to make life easy with gloves on. All up, I'm really happy I bought this and liked being surprised and impressed with all the little touches and thoughts that went into this pack.

I should also add: The Voile Tele-Pro T6 shovel blade fits in the front pocket (with the neck protruding slightly) and the handle attaches onto the side of the pack. G3 320cm probe fits in the main compartment.

even though its not used for school, could i use this for college? Does it have a laptop pocket...or a seperate pocket a laptop could fit?

"Dakine High Roller " 9/4/2009
Helpful Review?   (2) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Dakine High Roller
  • Pros:  Massive wheels, Big boot pockets, Internal padding
  • Cons:  Boot pockets unnecessary?,

Experience:   This bag was 50% off from Sierra but I would still happily have paid full price knowing now how good it is. Like all the other Dakine stuff I've seen or used, it reeks of quality. Big, durable looking zips with large toggles. The wheels on this bag are much larger and tougher looking than on most luggage and even most other snowboard wheelie bags- seems they are actually designed for rolling on ice or snow and not just airport linoleum. The large pockets on this bag for the boots sit at the nose and tail of the board. To be honest I'd be happy to just stuff everything inside the main area of the bag without these, it would save a bit of space. There is a nice little mesh pocket inside for your binding hardware or wax blocks. I'm hoping to fit enough gear in here for a one month boarding trip around Canada. It is big but I'm not sure if it is that big. But, if I can fill it to the weight limit like the other reviewer, I'll be happy.
