"Great shape, but ICS is a dud." 2/13/2010
Helpful Review?   (3) Yes    (2) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Malolo
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Groomers,Off Trail,Powder
  • Pros:  Goes well in Powder,
  • Cons:  The ICS system is a dud.,

Experience:   Got this for my son, works well in powder, but, and this is a big but, the ICS system completely stuffs the flex of the board on groomers and chopped up powder. I got him a 158, he's about 60kg, and after two weeks of fairly light use on Hokkaido powder (no big drops or jumps, no ice), it already has stress creases in the top sheet between the inner ends of the two ICS channels. I set it up on a stand to test it, and I think the channels completely ruin the flex of the board, compared to my old 3D board. The channels create two stiff sections of board, and all the flex occurs between the two channels creating excessive bending there, whilst removing the natural progressive flex the Malolo was famous for. I wouldn't recommend this board because of the ICS problem, the shape is great, but the flex sucks.
"Good Tech, nice 'n' warm!" 2/13/2010
Helpful Review?   (1) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Tech Flannel
  • Pros:  Warm, feels nice!,
  • Cons:  Makes you look like a hillbilly, Sierra have actually increased the price., They used to be $20.99
  • Fit:  Too big
  • My Size:  L
  • Fits Like:  XL
  • Description:  Bigggggggg!

Experience:   Great shirt, toasty warm, I was wearing one of these with a midweight thermal under my jacket in -15C and was comfortable. they are equivalent to a mid weight thermal. Why can't they bring one out in black or a different print, not everyone wants to look like a redneck, and the material itself is brilliant! Be nice if Sierra reduced the price back down to $20.99.

"OK, I guess" 3/25/2014
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Sierra Reverse Crew Snowboard
  • Skill:  Intermediate
  • Use:  Groomed,Low Speeds,Off Trail,Ungroomed
  • Pros:  Cheap, Good in the trees.,
  • Cons:  Doesn't hold wax in marginal conditions, Reverse camber is more of a V,

Experience:   It's an OK sort of board, but I've found in use it really doesn't hold wax in marginal conditions (a mix of ice and slush), something to do with the Ptex, I don't think it's a sintered base. The other issue is the distinct V of the reverse camber. It's almost a point. Basically it means if you are on a groomer you sort of rock back and forth on the V. Either you are on the tail or on the nose, riding the center of the board just feels sketchy because the effective edge is so short. It's rideable, but speed is just not that enjoyable. On the other hand, the V is kinda useful in the trees, think of it as having the turn already initiated.
"Not a thermal" 2/21/2010
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2009 Burton Captain Henley Thermal Crew
  • Pros:  good cotton shirt,
  • Cons:   Not a thermal,
  • Fit:  Just right
  • My Size:  L
  • Fits Like:  L
  • Description:  OK, maybe a bit long

Experience:   This is not a thermal, it's made of cotton. If it gets wet it will make you colder! It is however a nice cotton sweatshirt/heavy long sleeve T shirt thingo.

Trevtassie
Whoops, added the review to the wrong thing! Yes this one is a thermal, was a different "thermal" I got that was cotton. This one is bloody huge, if you normally take a large get a medium, and I shudder to think that someone out there would fit the XL!. I got a large and when I got it I was looking for the tent poles to go with it. It is however pretty warm as an underlayer, best worn under another thermal though as the weave, although thick, is very open and looses a bit of heat otherwise.

"Seem to be OK" 2/13/2010

  • Name: 2010 Flow B1 Snowboard Bindings
  • Pros:  Cheap,
  • Cons:  Reasonably hard to adjust,
  • Flex:  soft

Experience:   Not too bad for kids, but mine struggled with his. He's 10 and he sometimes had trouble getting the latch to flip up I ended up having to loosen the back foot a heap so he could easily get in, probably more than was good for control. I'd say get Flow kids boots to match the bindings for best results. He had Burton boots and even though they have a rounded heel (don't get boots with a square heel with flow bindings) he still had trouble getting the high back up, personally I think the pivot point is too low and doesn't allow the high back to swing away from the boot enough.
"Rubber Bindings: Rubbish" 2/13/2010
Helpful Review?   (0) Yes    (0) No

  • Name: 2010 Flow Flite 2 Womens
  • Pros:  Hmmm, nice girly blue,
  • Cons:  So flexible they may as well be made of rubber., Locking mechanism is way too stiff...,
  • Flex:  soft

Experience:   I got these for my partner, she's a relative beginner and even she was complaining of flex from the get go. She could easily lift the back of the binding 4mm (3/16) off the deck with hardly any force. It was all flex in the binding. The strap adjustment mechanism is pretty useless too, but with some fiddling can be made to work ok, it's hard to adjust out heel lift without crushing the foot, or making it hard to get the boots in. The locking mechanism on the high back is very stiff, and she had difficultly using it, and she's no woose. It got even stiffer when cold (-15C to -20C)and sometimes someone had to help her. All in all, not worth buying, if you want Womens Flows, buy some higher end ones, check the flex and the locking mechanism.
