Snowboard Rocker & Camber Guide
Written By: dougfagel

Thinking about purchasing a new rockered (i.e. reverse-camber) snowboard? Maybe you've heard all the hype rocker is getting this year and are wondering if there's still a place for camber? (Hint: the answer is yes.) Check out the video below for a brief rundown on what's new for 2010, and if you want more information, see our in-depth breakdown of all the different type of camber, reverse-camber, and everything in between:

Omitson Omitson - I find it hard to balance my board choice on one aspect alone, since I enjoy all aspects of snowboarding. What I enjoy most is freestyling so that's probably what I should focus on when I buy a new board.

dougfagel dougfagel - When riding a rocker board you are generally going to want to ride it with less edge angle and more lower body rotary. The board will not hook up as quick into the fall line and you have to more actively steer the board back across the hill.

ironlak691 ironlak691 - How different will it be going from riding a camber to a rocker? My board right now is a camber, and im getting a new board for this year, and im deciding to get the rocker version, but im scared that it will feel very different to camber and it will screw with my regular riding.

dougfagel dougfagel - Each category definitely has a number of sub categories with int it. The performance Rocker boards are all rockered between the feet and have added camber to increase performance. The Camber category that could be added is the designs that are introducing flat zones or rocker zones at the tip and tail while still being cambered between and under foot.

BladeEdgeRider BladeEdgeRider - Great video however I still have the same questions on my mind that has to do with performace rocker. Ive been really interested in riding/buying the Lib tech Dark Series and Travis Rice boards which has Rocker in the mid section and camber under the inserts. However recently I have been riding the Ride DH2 which is like some of the other boards shown in this video which it is much the opposite: it has some camber between the feet and Rocker outside the inserts.

BladeEdgeRider BladeEdgeRider - So my question is what is the performance difference between these. There needs to be a sub-catagory to Performance Rocker to distinguish this. I would call it Rocker Cambered and Camber Rockered. The 1st part indicating whats between the feet or in the middle of the board as it has traditionly been done so, and the 2nd part of the name to indicate the added camber type for that extra performace.
