Mount Hood the tallest Mountain in Oregon and kiddies did you know...
Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon. It was formed by a subduction zone and rests in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located about 50 miles (80 km) east-southeast of Portland, on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties.
The height assigned to Mount Hood's snow-covered peak has varied over its history. Modern sources point to three different heights: 11,249 feet (3,429 m) based on the 1991 U.S. National Geodetic Survey,[1] 11,240 feet (3,426 m) based on a 1993 scientific expedition,[6] and 11,239 feet (3,426 m)[7] of slightly older origin. The peak is home to twelve glaciers.[8] It is the highest point in Oregon and the fourth-highest in the Cascade Range.[9] Mount Hood is considered the Oregon volcano most likely to erupt,[10] though based on its history, an explosive eruption is unlikely. Still, the odds of an eruption in the next 30 years are estimated at between 3 and 7 percent,[11] so the USGS characterizes it as "potentially active", but the mountain is informally considered dormant.[11]

| Our campsite was not only the "Flow Spot" we were blessed with Legends; Rob Kingwill, Dale Rehberg & Russel Winfield |
Rob Kingwill was born and bred in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, is and has been a pro snowboarder for several years among many other things - artist, MC, TV host, aspiring singer/songwriter, and the founder of company AVALON7 (limited edition bandanas, hats, tshirts). He is a longtime rider for the LOVE of it and seems pretty hyped on life in general. Oh, and he loves to shred the AK.
His snowboard career has involved some pretty huge accomplishments including winning the 2008 North Face Masters event in Alyeska, AK, X-Games medals,US Open half pipe champion, and wins at the Grand Prix and World Cup.
Russell Winfield was the first brother to go pro, and to date he may still be the most recognizable. His snowboard career started at his local NYC golf course on a Burton Elite, but soon he was a serious pipe competitor at the Nationals for Mistral Snowboards. Notoriously outspoken, the following year he was promptly ejected for telling the judges they sucked. In ‘91 he joined the Burton amateur team briefly then turned pro for upstart Ride Snowboards. Russ helped to assemble an all-star cast, and when Mack Dawg’s The Hard The Hungry And The Homeless came out, he and teammates Jake Blattner and Dale Rehberg hit pay dirt. Russell’s Fat Albert pro model was selling out. Shenanigans and gratuitous globe-trotting ensued. Attitude and alcohol quickly earned him a reputation steeped in infamy worldwide. Eventually, years at the beach living larger than life caught up with him-his career timed out. words thanks to TWS Russel now has his hands in plenty of projects including one for Snowboarder, the reason for his Hood trip.
Dale Rehberg was on the 90-91 Pro Joyride Snowboard Team he also rode for Airwalk back when they made Snowboard Boots. Dale also was on the first Pro Team over at the now famous Ride Snowboards (owned by
Jardeen Corp makers of coffeemate & more) Dale was the first guy to hit handrails in the streets, I'd see him in the little town of Breckenridge scoping street rails all the time. You could say he was a Pioneer in the Urban World of Snowshredding. Dale now is the Brand Manager for
NXTZ Active Accessories, official Neck Tubes of everyone who is someone... including
HCSC and Windells up at Hood and not to mention 6.0, Frends, Gatorade, etc...
Russ on Dale: Snowboarding as it is known now was once called “new school riding,” and not just freestyle. All the rails and jumps that are so graciously setup by resorts weren’t always there. We used to have to go out and find rails to hit. If we wanted to hit a kicker, we would have to build it. The year was 1991 and the place was Breckenridge, CO. Dale Rehberg was one of the first punk kids in big pants and a flat brim to do it. In other words respect your elders kids, cause if it wasn’t for us you might be in a speed suit, running gates!
