Bucky Lasek, Shaun White and Pierre-Luc Gagnon were the last three riders to go in the skate vert superfinals - ranked third to first - but it came down to the last runs to decide the podium order.
The score to beat was Gagnon's 94.00, and Shaun was looking for the win with massive airs, lip tricks, and he even pulled out the armadillo. But when he dropped in for the final run with the pressure on, his board got away from him partway through and the win went to Gagnon. White took home second place with 89.75.

Shaun Talks Current Projects in Complex Magazine Written By: ShaunWhite
Shaun White has been extremely busy as of late. Between premieres of the romcom flick, Friends With Benefits starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake where he plays himself, and the release of his collaboration with Oakley and Sunglass Hut, the Shaun White Holbrook Gold Collection, you'd think he's got plenty to do. But he's also gearing up for the release of his latest apparel collection for Target (hitting stores July 26), but not before he tries to skate his way to another gold at the 2011 Dew Cup, which kicks off today in Ocean City, MD.
With all of this going on, White, along with his brother Jesse White who acts as Creative Director for all of his stylish endeavors, found time to sit down with us and talk about how it was on the Friends With Benefits set, his personal style and the creative process that comes along with spearheading a clothing line.
First off, we just want to give Shaun a congratulations on winning his 7th ESPY award! This is the fourth straight year that Shaun has nabbed the Best Male Action Sports Athlete award!

With two wins in as many tries on the 2010 Dew Tour, things are rolling Shaun's way. After coming out on top in Portland last month, this weekend in Salt Lake City saw yet another full-on, no-holds-barred battle on the vert ramp with Pierre-Luc Gagnon. And come Sunday afternoon, Shaun put together another run worth remembering, and was awarded his second Dew Tour win in as many tries for the effort. He still has considerable ground to make up if he's going to win the Dew Cup Championship in Las Vegas this October, but then again, stranger things have happened. Check out the highlights from the weekend's final vert jam below...
Shaun and friends go to the adventure park in Park city Utah. They get xtreme on the alpine slides zip line and the coaster. Devon and shaun scream like girls on the coaster, shaun flys down the alpine slide and he takes you on a POV ride down the zip line.
Back from a little vacation in the Maldives (waves were smallish, but had fun and got cooked like a lobster), and now heading to the Tonight Show for another sit down with Jay Leno. The show airs tonight (Wed. Oct. 6) on NBC. Tune in an check it out.
Hopefully what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas. The Dew Tour Championships are coming to Sin City, and right there in the maelstrom of slot machines and blackjack tables is a crazy race for the vert title. The ramp's getting hoisted by the pool at the Hard Rock, and come this weekend it's game on.
So how's Shaun looking to take the cup? Depends on your perspective. If you're a glass-half-full kind of person things are stellar. He's coming off back-to-back wins on the ramp, and for the first time in Dew Tour history, the Vegas championships will offer a 50 percent increase in points...meaning a win will give the rider 150 points, instead of the usual 100, and so on down the line.
"That's solid," tells Shaun. "I need all the points I can get. It's hard missing an event and playing catch up. If I wasn't injured for the first event I would be sitting pretty nice, I think."
But then if you're a glass-half-empty kinda chap, Shaun's got a lot of work ahead of him. For Shaun to win the cup PLG would need to place an unlikely dead last and Bucky and Andy would have to place no higher than fourth.
One way or the other, Vegas is going to be interesting...it always is.
DEW TOUR CHAMPIONSHIPS, LAS VEGAS Written By: ShaunWhite

The Dew Tour Championships took to Sin City this past weekend, and Shaun came up aces, winning his third vert event in as many tries. Unfortunately, due to a tweaked ankle early in the year Shaun missed the Boston stop of the Dew Tour, which made the odds on winning the overall Dew Cup a long shot, but just the same, going three for three ain't half bad. Congrats to PLG who took this year's cup. And now folks, it looks like we're quickly slipping into winter, and you know what that means...but until then, here's a few highlights from Vegas. Enjoy.
Coming to China sooner rather than later, Oakley and Shaun White are happy to present Air and Style Beijing. Landing at the massive Olympic Sports Center Stadium on December 4, stay tuned as this thing's bound to get weird. Can't wait, winter's coming!
Winning's never easy, especially when you gotta do it on a vert ramp against Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Bucky Lasek and Andy McDonald, but with a run to remember, Shaun took the top spot on the podium today at the Dew Tour in Portland.
After coming unstuck on his first two runs in the final, Shaun was able to put together something special for the good folks of The City of Roses. "I knew I had to do a heavy-heavy combination and I nailed it," was Shaun's explanation.
As for the specifics, the winning combo goes a little something like this: frontside fakie 540, to fakie 540 cab, to 720, to armadillo, or for all you laypeople, a frontside heelflip body varial 540.
It was Shaun's first Dew Tour appearance since '08, which may have helped fuel the fire. "I wanted to show that I've got it down," he surmised. Consider this mission accomplished.
With Shaun's name entered into both the Vert and Best Trick categories at this year's X Games, he's finally making his return to the ramp official. X Games hits LA from July 29 through August 1, and Shaun's eager to get rolling. Coming off of a serious ankle tweak that left him sidelined for the better part of two months, he's amped to drop into the Staples Center and see where four wheels will take him. Both the Vert competition and Best Trick go off on Friday, July 30. More from the man as he gets on the board and the beast that is X Games takes off.
So, ESPN's ESPY Awards have come and gone, and a huge amount of gratitude is owed to all those that voted and put Shaun right there on the same stage as the New Orleans Saints, the LA Lakers and all the rest of the country's biggest names in sport. "It's an unbelievable honor," says Shaun. "Any time you have people voting, and it's not just about performance, it means a lot. It means somehow you were able to have an effect on people, and then for them to recognize you for it, it's pretty amazing. I'm honored."
And now, as the snowboard season melts away and the hecticness of the 2010 Olympic games starts to recede, it's back on the skateboard. Shaun's committed to the vert event at this Summer's X Games, and "I'm pumped," he says. "Nothing like a new challenge to fire you up."
It's still a ways off, and Shaun's been too busy to spend any time scripting his part, but it is official, he will be dishing out a Moonman trophy at this year's MTV Video Awards. Not quite sure what category he'll be handling, and we're pretty sure he's not going to make an entrance like Sacha Baron Cohen did last year, but it should be a good time. The show is live at 9:00pm on June 6, we'll hit you up when we know more.
Back On Board: A Return To The Street Written By: ShaunWhite
As the snow melts and the concrete jungle of LA beckons, Shaun's back on the skateboard, "pushing around town." Here's what he's been up to:
What kind of board are you riding these days?
?I'm riding my pro model with Birdhouse. For skating vert, I like to ride an 8" board. It helps for when I don't get my feet perfect for landings. For messing around in LA or cruising parks I rock a 7.75" deck.??When did you get back on the board??I started riding right after the US Open. I came back so tired from the Olympics, post tour, and Open, all I wanted to do was rest and skate. I moved up to LA, so I just started pushing around town to get my legs warm. Now I'm skating a lot of park and a little bit of vert. I haven't gotten into vert full scale because I'm still warming up.??
What are you working towards??
There isn't any goal as of yet, I'm just having fun skating and being off the snow. My first contest this year is going to be the Dew Tour's first stop, but that isn't till June. Until then, I'm just focusing on skating a ton of park and vert.??
Are you going to build a secret mega ramp somewhere??
No real plans as of yet. I don't have a ton of tricks that I want to push on my skateboard like I did last winter with snowboarding. I think I would feel pretty guilty building a huge ramp for one trick, although it would be super fun. First things first, I just need to get on my board again and start to feel more confident and comfortable.??
The Winter X Games Three Peat Written By: ShaunWhite
One is sweet, two's even better, but three golds in three years at the Winter X Games? It's unheard of, literally. Until Shaun stomped his run last night in the Men's SuperPipe, nobody had ever won back-to-back-to-back golds. But uncorking the now infamous Double McTwist 12, Shaun wasn't all that fazed by history.
"It's been a wild night for me," said Shaun at the bottom of the pipe. "Hitting my head didn't help anything, I've been seeing stars," he added, referring to a helmet-popping, skull-rattling wipeout during a practice run not more than an hour before he took center stage.
Obviously the newly unveiled McTwist was the talk of town. "I knew in my mind that I wanted to do it, no matter what happened even if I was in first," said Shaun. "That trick's just a beast of its own. I don't know, somedays are just tougher than others, I guess. I was glad to put it down to tonight, and hopefully I'll just keep riding on tomorrow."
Shaun Spins To Win In Park City Written By: ShaunWhite
"For me tonight to put that run together was unreal," says Shaun, shortly after linking his Grand Prix-winning 49.50 ride in Park City this weekend, a run that included the newly debuted double McTwist 12. "It felt great. I wanted to push the judges to boundaries that they can go to. I know they haven't handed out a full-on perfect score yet. I'll get them."
With this win in Park City, Shaun locked in the top spot of the 2010 Sprint U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix series. High fives, hand shakes, and good times ensued.
He's now bound for Aspen and Winter X Games before heading north to Vancouver. The final Olympic Snowboard team roster will officially be named this week.
Transworld Snow's McTwist Talk Written By: ShaunWhite
Note: Earlier this week the Transworld Snow guys were with Shaun during a Park City practice run. The following is their take:
Shaun White busted out an insane new trick at the final Grand Prix practice under the lights at Park City tonight--a double McTwist 1260. He says, he booked it straight to Park City after the Mammoth Grand Prix and, reminiscent of last winter when he innovated several double corks in the pipe, he fixated on this new goal. Read More...
Vancouver Bound: Shaun one step closer to Olympics Written By: ShaunWhite
The hill was packed. The "industry" made the trek up from their various SoCal headquarters, and even riders who wouldn't normally be caught dead at a comp turned up to watch. With the crowd in full attendance, the riders were excited to get the competition rolling.
Not one to waste any time, with the sun shining and the crisp Sierra wind at bay, on Saturday Shaun stomped his first run, accenting it with a series of double corks, and locking in a 47-point ride for the effort.
Shaun White WINS First US Grand Prix Written By: ShaunWhite
It was a showdown like nothing the snowboard world had seen before.
After battling some challenging conditions with blowing snows and
winds, Shaun White fought his way through a stiff set of competition to
take the first US Grand Prix and position himself for capturing a spot
within the US Olympic team.
Shaun was looking down the barrel
of some huge double corks as he put it all on the line in his first run
going huge frontside air into backside 900 and then blasting out with a
frontside double cork 1080 which he linked into a cab double cork 1080
and then into a frontside 1080 and finished with a super smooth cab
This run was quite possibly the highest level of
snowboarding that we have seen in the sport's history and although
there were some stiff competitors like Louie Vito, Shaun stayed ahead
of the pack and continued to push forward. Stay tuned as the race for the US Olympic Team heads to Mammoth Lakes, CA on Jan. 4, 2010.

Shaun Gets Ready for Cayman Islands! Written By: ShaunWhite
There have been tales told, tall tales about a mythical beast that looms in the Cayman Islands. A place where sand turns into concrete and where people disappear for 7-10 days at a time. After exhaustive research it turns out that the mythical beast is actually the Black Pearl, oh, what is that, you don't know about the Black Pearl?
Consider arguably the world's best skatepark but located in a place where after you are done skating you can hit the beach with some friends, maybe catch a surf or check out the crazy snorkeling. This would be paradise, correct? And it is...
Enter The Black Pearl Skatepark (check it out here), where almost literally waves from the ocean meet the waves and the transitions of the skatepark. It is indeed a mythical place, and a special one, where Shaun will be heading next week to skate with some stoked kids at the park and enjoy a little time away from California.
Summer Shredding in Oregon! Written By: ShaunWhite
Ah, summertime in Mt. Hood. The yearly pilgrimage to the land of hot dogs, campfires and summer shredding was on Shaun's list and after a fun week of riding, it is back to California for a little bit of surfing as well. Between snowboarding with friends like Heikki Sorsa and skating through Govy, the days just kinda ran into each other. Thanks to all the kids that were up at the mountain shredding and to the diggers to working to make the pipe awesome!
Battling through the treacherous conditions Shaun topped the podium by putting down a solid run to seal the victory in the South Island. This win comes on the heels of a run at the Burton NZ Open that blew the doors off of the previous contests.
Shaun pulled a frontside lein air, backside 900, frontside 720, cab double cork 1080, to a front 1080 in his first run, and a straight air, backside 500, frontside 720, cab double cork 1080, front double cork 1080 on his second run. Shaun is going to be leaving NZ soon, heading back to the states for some late summer surfing, tacos, and relaxation!
